If you seek a fine dining experience in Midlothian, look no further than 1870! We love this place! The food is absolutely amazing! The service is superb! The atmosphere is elegant southern, cozy and chic! Highly recommended!
My girlfriends and I made reservations for happy hour this evening, but there was some confusion about where HH took place. The staff were super accommodating and we ended up getting a great high top upstairs. We shared tons of apps including the shrimp toast (amazing!), the beef tartare, and oysters. Then we got some pasta and smash burgers. The burgers were SO GOOD—like probably one of the best I’ve ever had in Richmond. We all ordered a few rounds of drinks too. The bill was really affordable. Great happy hour food and prices! Our server Emily was so awesome — she was very kind, quick, accommodating, and just really down to earth. Also I have no idea how she remembered all of our many, many orders without writing them down haha! We loved her! Genevieve was also a wonderful server. We really appreciated their kindness when I accidentally broke a glass! It was all taken in stride. We had a great evening. I highly recommend!
The service was impeccable from the moment we arrived until we left. The staff was friendly and attentive, the food was magnificent, and the atmosphere was very inviting. Worth the hour we drove to get there!
Amazing gem in Midlothian.

Ceasar salad was underwhelming. 4 romaine leaves with a slight trace of dressing. $14 and an additional $3 for 2 pieces of anchovy. Burrata was very good. Pork Chop was good but ordered medium and it was closer to MR. Sides were good. Cheesecake was just ok. Charging for refills on fountain drinks is appalling. We had very high expectations and had been looking forward to dining here. We were disappointed overall with our experience and probably won't be returning. We really appreciate upscale but 1870 missed the mark.

Amazing experience at 1870. We started with the steak tartare for an app. The smoky flavor was delicious. It came with bread and the honey butter was so good! Got the filet mignon with peppercorn sauce. The steak was cooked perfect med rare and the sauce was perfect. The whipped potatoes were nice and buttery and the broccoli was cooked nicely. Ended with the bread pudding. The middle was soft and the outside had a nice crisp. Will definitely be back!

Excellent service, incredible steaks and great and inexpensive cocktails!
We really enjoyed dining here; the first thing I noticed was how well staffed the restaurant is and how polite and welcoming they were. Upstairs is a cozy low-lit bar with high tops which is also a great option for a more casual meal.
The dining room is gorgeous and you really cannot go wrong with the menu items on offer. Highly recommended!

Service and wine were very good. They only had 2 bottles of the wine we liked. We would have bought another one. Food was also good, the only thing I didn’t like was the shrimp cocktail. It wasn’t your normal cold, fresh shrimp with a good cocktail sauce. This shrimp cocktail was served in a small bowl with a very thick horseradish type sauce with dots of a tomato sauce on the bottom with cut up shrimp, maybe 5 total laying on top of this sauce that you could not dip it in. It was overpriced at $20, some may like it but it needs a description or the server needs to let the person ordering it know that it isn’t the typical, good shrimp cocktail. The lobster bisque looked good and everyone seemed to enjoy that and the butternut squash soup.
Our party had several fillets and I had the chicken with “Jacob” mashed potatoes and creamed spinach that was great! We had no complaints. Excellent staff and the manager checked in a couple times. Good experience.
Dietary restrictions: They had gluten free bread which was a nice thing for the one man in our party who can’t have gluten. He said the butter served with it was amazingly good.

We had an excellent meal, the steaks were cooked well. The waitress was knowledgeable about their wine selection. The deserts were all excellent. My negative feedback would be that the downstairs was extremely loud on a Saturday night to the point that we had trouble having a conversation. I hope the do some work on sound reduction.

From the moment we walked in until we walked out every thing was impeccable. The hostess was welcoming and friendly. Jacob, our server, was knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The quality of service he provided was top notch and exactly what I would expect from a fine dining restaurant. Everything we ordered, drinks, food and dessert was of the upmost quality and tasted incredible.
10/10 experience. Highly recommend and will be back.

A surprise from my wife on my birthday, we visited 1870 Restaurant and Bar. At a reserved table upstairs, we enjoyed a wonderful meal and deliciously-crafted cocktails. Joanna was our server and did a really wonderful job through the experience making us feel "at home". The environment was warm, cozy, clean, and tasteful.
For our meal (and knowing that we would take a lot home for leftovers), we split a Caesar Salad, ordered a 20 oz Ribeye, a Duck Breast, carrots, and mushrooms. Everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned wonderfully. We may have even totally splurged on a Crème Brûlée. A lighter cocktail to start, glass of wine with dinner, and an old fashioned with dinner rounded the meal out wonderfully.
While food was the mission, people make any experience. Joanna was amazing and unexpectedly finding old friends, Craig (GM) and Geneva (Bartender), sent the experience over the top.
We look forward to returning and sharing this experience with our family and friends soon.

Absolutely amazing experience at 1870! We started with lobster bisque en croute, followed by a house salad, which were great Then on to the star of the show, pan seared duck breast. This was the best duck I have ever eaten. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Potatoes au gratin and creamy spinach were delicious. Lastly, the creme brulee was just wonderful. Chef Dunlap has serious skills, and I cannot wait to return.
