Beautiful location with excellent and entertaining chefs. Hadn't been here in a few years so we decided to celebrate my daughter's birthday here. Service and quality has not declined a bit. Excellent cuts of steak and chicken with the best rice in town.

We first went to the one on broad which couldn't accommodate us because it was a coach bus there and there was no seating so we went to Midlothian it was my husband's birthday and his first time the Sumo was our choice and he even got a cheesecake for his birthday

We have been coming to Kabuto for over 40 years and have spent most of our children's birthdays there and this was the worst experience that I have ever had there. First, we had a reservation for 7 and arrived on time. We were seated, but told that we would have to wait for the cooks. Two tables of 8 in the banquet room and we had to wait almost an hour for our apps, then another 1/2 hour for only one of the chefs to start cooking. The one person that ordered sushi had their meal in 10 minutes and was completely finished a good half hour before the cook even started. Finally, when our cook showed up, the other table was almost finished with their meal. Our cook was apparently the dishwasher, because he obviously didn't know what he was doing. He almost stabbed one of our party when he lost a utensil midair, He cooked and served our rice before he even started the vegetables. The rice was cold by the time we got the veggies. The veggies were cold by the time we got our meats. We never got our shrimp appetizer that comes with all entrees. And the cook did not put on anything close to the show that you expect and pay for. After we were served I asked for the ginger dipping sauce and he looked at me like it was an imposition, and then only gave 3 of the 8 of us the sauce. We were there for a birthday, which was obvious, but weren't even asked if we wanted dessert before our bills were hurriedly shoved at us. I asked to have a word with the coked up manager afterwards and he had nothing to say other than "let me check on that." before he scampered off, never to be seen again. We dropped almost $1,000 for our dinners. I will never, ever go to Kabuto again and we will have to find a new birthday tradition. Apparently, it is under new management that is not living up to the standards that we have come to expect. What a waste of time and money.

Went here on April 11. The food is always great. Sometimes the Hibachi chef is an introverted American. The experience is why many people go here.

Been years since I’ve been here. Decided to switch things up and ordered take out early afternoon on a Saturday.

Food was awesome! Clean, flavorful, great portions and everyone enjoyed their meal.

Great time had by everyone, the selection of food is very nice, especially the hibachi is truly fun. We had a good time, especially my grandkids.

It was ok about your typical experience food was good nothing special though. My biggest gripe I have is the restaurant or at least the waitress refused to split the check and we had a party of eight and we all wanted to pay separately. Luckily we were able to venmo the person who paid the bill but that is ridiculous it's 2025 and you can't split the bill. I will not be returning if you can't do something as simple as split a bill at restaurant type known for serving large groups of people I don't need to give you my business.

The chef did a fantastic job. He even sang Happy Birthday to me when he started. Too funny!
Exceptional and correct cook on my steak, medium rare. Shrimp was also done to be cooked but tender. Yummy!

What can I tell you about Kabuto?
I have actually been going here for at least the past decade. This is a Richmond staple, ever since they used to run their ads when they first started when I was young.
The food:
Well, it's Habachi, and for a Hibachi place to be so consistent with their food is impressive as they tend to go through their fair share of cooks. Bottom line, the food is good and authentic
Pricing:
Well, this place has stayed consistent with their pricing and have not gone up significantly in price nor degraded in quality.
Atosphere:
Well, again, it's Habachi! Short of going to a Habachi place in Osaka itself, you are not gonna find a place that is so authentically Japanese when it comes to atmosphere. The place is practically a Samurai museum, and they display very nice suits of armor!
