The most horribly rude host I’ve ever seen in my life. The man checking in diners was so rude and nasty it was unbelievable. We were shocked. After reading other reviews, it seems to be a trend. I read the reviews on Yelp, Facebook, and on here. The negative ones come from him. I can’t imagine keeping him as the first person you interact with when you get to the restaurant. That man needs to go. He’s dragging the business down.We were very pleasant and understanding when he told us there would be a wait but wow he was awful.We ate there even though we were treated so poorly. The food was ok. Overpriced but ok. Mostly bar type foods. It’s a fun location, but I will absolutely not be going back until they get a new host. We will be taking our business and our visiting friends elsewhere.

One of the best places on Smith Mountain Lake. Great destination by boat or car. Very nice outdoor patio. Only complaint is that the food is inconsistent ranging between great and mediocre.

Love this Moneta staple. Grab some drinks and amazing food in a laid back atmosphere right on the water. You won't regret it.

We came here on a whim and ended up having a wonderful experience sitting on their deck. We enjoyed their wings and a couple of mixed drinks. The waitress was very kind and helpful. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed and I particularly like that it is dog friendly! I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in the SML area.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp into the deck area and entrance to the dining room.

We always go to the bar side of the place. It used to be great, but the staff acts like they don't want to be there anymore. Food and craft beer is still great though.

Don’t waste your time coming here with your dogs if the suns not shining. We made a point to come to the most dog friendly rated place we could find, only to find out they have two outside seating areas, and only the tiny uncovered one is dog friendly. That wasn’t even really the problem, the rude, dismissive attitude of the gentleman, and I use that word reluctantly, who ushered me back out the door and told me they weren’t serving people with dogs today was. Do yourself a favor, drive down to port side grill. They went above and beyond to make sure us(the humans) and the dogs were comfortable in the less than comfortable weather outside

The view is great, if you get to sit outside. Inside is LOUD! Music in the background has people shouting to talk. Food was good. NY Strip, Mahi Mahi, fish & chips, peel & eat shrimp & tuna app. All delicious! Stay away from the fried shrimp, no flavor whatsoever. Like most of the other reviews, the host who also happens to be the owner & manager is rude. I'm not sure why, maybe he gets stressed when they're busy but he just comes off crass and rude. Our waitress was great tho!
I went to Jake’s place tonight and had a wonderful dinner. My fishing partner and I had a million questions because we are on the keto diet, and the beautiful female server that waited on us was more than amazing. Based on the name on the ticket, her initials were MB.

This food is amazing! Atmosphere is fantastic.. service is great! Damn near a perfect place to go, even have a menu for your dog! HOWEVER for the price.. you should get a tad bit more than you do. The calamari for example was a bit slack for the price of it, and the sides you get with your food comes in a small little ? everything was great!.. other than those things. Like when I asked for some squash and zucchini.. I'd like more than 2 small spoons worth. I do suggest people try out the jacked up chicken.. cause it will jack you up!

Great location. Average food. Absolutely awful customer service.If you read through the bad reviews, they all have the same thing in common: the host. The host or owner (whoever he is) is so rude it is shocking. I cannot understand why he is still there. We live here full time and will not go back ever again after dealing with him again. We gave it another shot this summer, but we're done. I know of several other full-time residents who have had the same issues and also don't go anymore because of him.Having someone so rude be the first person your customers deal with is wild. Do better Jake's Place. He is costing you business.
