I truly wanted to fall in love with this place. Walking in, the space is small and cozy, which gave me high hopes for a warm and welcoming experience. Unfortunately, that’s where the charm ended. Standing in line, it wasn’t clear how the process worked if you hadn’t been there before, and it took quite a while before anyone acknowledged me. Instead of feeling like a valued customer, I felt more like I was interrupting the staff’s break.
For the price point, I expected the pies to exceed what I could make at home. The caramel apple pie had fresh apples and a tasty filling, but the crust was flat and unremarkable. The pumpkin pie was the biggest letdown. I had hoped for that comforting, nostalgic Thanksgiving flavor, but instead the filling was so bitter I had to add whipped cream just to get a few bites down. The texture was fine, but again, the crust added nothing special. I gave up after only four bites.
Overall, the service left me feeling unwelcome, and the pies didn’t justify the cost. While the caramel apple filling was enjoyable, both crusts fell short, and the pumpkin pie was simply disappointing. I hope this feedback helps others set expectations realistically and encourages the business to focus on both hospitality and consistency in their baked goods.

A friend has been recommending Woodruff’s for some time now. I live in Roanoke so it is a bit of a trek to get there. This weekend, I found myself post breakup and needed a distraction so what better thing to do than toss the wee ones in the car with your bestie and drive for pie? When I tell you this place is what any doctor would recommend to mend the spirit, I say that with that I have. As the kids would put it, no cap.
The minute you walk in, it feels like you are in grandma’s kitchen.
There is such kind, loving energy.
Darnell, Angela, and Melissa were there during our visit and they took time to engage with each customer yet made me feel like I was the whole reason they showed up to work.
And the pie?? 🤤
I may have had pie for breakfast the last two days.
We tried the apple, chocolate peanut butter, sweet potato, buttermilk, lemon chess, and Keylime pie topped with the FRESH hand pies.
(I had to wrestle my oldest for one bite of the peach and they were kind enough to share the cherry.)
For me: Woodruff’s is two thumbs up all around.

We ( Moonshine Trails Motorcycle Riding Club) took a ride today for some Lunch and some Pie !!! The Ladies there were so sweet !!! There were a bunch of us and they took all of our orders and we were all served in a timely fashion !!! Oooomg, the food was great, and the Pie was deeeeelicious !!! My girlfriend and I had the Smoked Turkey Sandwich and I had a slice of Pecan Pie. Everything was delicious, I love me some Pecan Pie. The service was super, great atmosphere, loved talking with the women there. I definitely will be back !!!! Thank you to the staff for a great experience! Mark & Kerri

We love pies, enjoy road trips and Woodruff's Cafe & Pie Shop has been on our radar of uniquely special places to visit for quite awhile. Last week, we went to Woodruff's and they delivered! We enjoyed the freshly prepared chicken salad sandwich meal along with a fried peach pie. It was perfection!! We took a slice of decadent Chocolate Chess Pie to go plus got to sample a newly created kid's ice cream treat called "dirt cup" (vanilla ice cream topped with crushed chocolate cookies, gummy worms and ooey gooey goodness). These old kiddos enjoyed every bite?!
The friendly staff, attentive service and homey comfy cafe all felt like stopping at a familiar place where everyone's glad to see each other. Woodruff's is a gem! Many thanks to the entire staff for their warmth and for welcoming and making us feel so very much at home.

I am so impressed! I ordered 2 pies and had them shipped UPS. In spite of UPS ignoring the "this side up label", the pies arrived in perfect condition and cool. I ordered a double crust strawberry rubarb and a chocolate chess. They are both beautiful and delicious!
