Stopped in for dinner after a cave tour. Outstanding ribeye and salad. Had to top it off with the hot fudge Sunday. Great food and atmosphere. Recommended.

My family and I were in the area for a JMU graduation and looking for a breakfast spot. We walked into Kathy’s and the waitress basically turned us away immediately, saying they stop serving food at 10:30 AM (even though Google says they’re open until 8 PM). She didn’t mention anything about reopening for lunch/dinner service, just a flat “we’re done serving food.” We were 100% dismissed the second she saw our NY sports gear, which is actually hilarious. After that, and noticing the Confederate flags all over the place, we didn’t even want to eat there anymore anyway...

This is a hidden gym of Newmarket, Virginia. If you’re looking for real home cooked meals just like grandma fixed. This is your spot. They always say go where the locals go. Well this is where the locals go and once you eat there, you’ll understand why great food for an amazing value.

No frills, sweet lady, good simple food, a relaxed wholesome place for a big city dude. Confederate decor is justified by the local history.

A nice break from fast food hamburgers and expensive fancy food. It felt like a friendly happy place with a down home country atmosphere. Eating like a local.

I was visiting this part of Virginia and came across this place while I was looking for a bite to eat. The food was really good, wholly satisfying, and it reminded me of what I grew up on. Service was top-notch, and made me wish I could come by more often. I really enjoyed the Southern décor, especially in a town like New Market, steeped as it is in the history of the War Between the States. Yankees will complain about it, but then again what don’t they complain about? All in all, this is a neat gem of a cafe in a cute town, nestled in the Shenandoah Valley, and I’d recommend anyone stop by for a good bite to eat.

As much as I understand trying to hate this place for the racist atmosphere I’m gonna be completely honest about the food and service. If you like very very basic American food that is overly fatty and under seasoned this your the place for you(buns were soaked in fat), but the burger was alright, I’d say about two steps up from a cafeteria burger, the fresh vegetables were nice though. The service was great, just general good restaurant quality service. The atmosphere is the problem. You can have your beliefs but if your running a public service to service all people, maybe doing cover your place in confederation merch. I fully support promoting your cultures identity, however I’m sorry to burst your bubble but the confederacy isn’t history. The confederacy only existed for four years, during that time the only indifference they found themselves in from the north that led to the civic war was that black peoples are in fact not people. Sorry for the little history lesson but something that existed for four years 170 years ago is not your culture or history, you’re just backing something that stood for extreme hate and racism.
