Stopped in for some lunch and was very happy with the service and food was great. Fried chicken I highly recommend and they make their own salad dressing which was amazing. Can’t wait to come back again. My husband and mother in law had the chicken livers and they said it was wonderful. Great food and friendly service from all.
We stayed in the local RV resort for a week and ate breakfast here twice and dinner one night. All the food was great, affordable and their menu was extensive. You'll find unusual Southern dishes like a plate of fried chicken livers, chipped beef and spam along with more common entrees. Husband loved his country-fried steak and the country ham steak for breakfast. Food service was quick and the wait staff very attentive. Oh, and did I mention homemade PIE!!?!!

Southern Kitchen is a long-time institution in New Market, near Shenandoah Valley and Luray Caverns. This charming restaurant, a classic diner with a cute design inside and out, offers a relaxing, family-friendly, and quiet environment, perfect for all occasions. The employees are super friendly, happy, and always kind, caring, and remarkable workers who deserve raises and extra days off. They have been here for a long time, and the food is delicious. The Reuben sandwich, with its delicious corned beef, is not to be missed, with one guest rating it a 5. The hamburger steak received mixed feedback, noted to be dry and lacking flavor by some, though others found it solid for a cheap eat. The fried chicken is cooked crispy, but some guests feel it needs a bit more seasoning. Fresh salads are offered in generous servings, and the apple salad made from locally sourced apples is popular. Their house-made blue cheese salad dressing is a highlight. The BLT may still fall short with its portion. Customers have also enjoyed the Peanut Soup, which some find unique. The hush puppies have been described as awesome. The staff is friendly and welcoming, creating a great atmosphere. Service can be a little slow, and they need to hire more employees. It is a beautiful downtown New Market spot that is perfect for all cravings, open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Come early before the crowds and enjoy some unbelievable food.
