Very solid spot. Nothing amazing but it's important to support local classics like this.

The Warwicktonian on rye, no onions. Been ordering this for 20+ years. Love this sandwich, Danny's is the only place I've ever had it. Lots of other sandwiches there and the staff is super sweet.

Good Reuben. Potato salad was also good. Prefer my bread grilled with some butter on grill and Swiss on top end. Iced Tea with lemon was GREAT.

Refused service to us because I, a 93% disabled US Army Veteran, had with me a VA prescribed service dog for PTSD, migraines, anxiety attacks and panic attacks. My service dog is trained with the organization my VA doctor specified. I am prescribed to have him by Dr. Lazenby, of the Hampton VA, 24/7. After being seated we were confronted by a very large and threatening lady who was not just a little bit rude. Not just a little bit rude. It is a shame because this place is within walking distance, even for me with my mobility issues and we try to support local business. We had come here for take out during the pandemic, twice, each time met with the same rudeness by the same robust lady, as though she was mad at the world and we were the cause of the world. Picture someone with a gleaming brow and flys who makes you feel like you didn't do your homework you totally forgot about. At the time we thought it was the pressure of the pandemic but that has passed. Her brow and flys hasn't. I would suggest to the owners of Danny's Deli, the ones who would be fined, and not the rather heavy set lady or the sweet grandmother at the cash regeister, take a look, with their legal advisers, at the ADA, the federal law that protects Americans with disabilities. The penalties for refusing service to people with service animals is rather steep. I mean down payment on 2 houses steep. At the very least, it isn't very thankful to veterans that have served and are now in need of constant aid for their injuries. Not to worry, we got take-out from the local Chinese down the street (rather American situation don't you agree?). Turned away from an "American Deli" but served by a Chinese take-out because I'm a disabled US veteran with a service dog. What a "Thank you for your service." But I remember their pickles were good at Danny's Deli; kind of apropos don't you think? What a pickle.

Danny’s Deli is a Newport News landmark. The food and service are consistently great, with that home town touch. The home made deserts are spectacular!

I ask where can I get the best hot pastrami in Newport News? Danny's everyone said. Well my friends and acquaintances have never had really good pastrami before. Danny's pastrami was overcooked and dry. Certainly not stacked high. I ask for extra deli pickles they added 2 whole pickles with up charge $6 I can get a whole jar for that price and now so can Danny I paid for the next jar he got. So total $20 for a sandwich and pickles. And poor customer service when I called to speak with them about my experience. Sadly I'm still looking for the best pastrami in Newport News

Danny's Deli Restaurant is an ok local diner. It's a family owned restaurant with a diner style menu with a variety of food options. Greasy spoon options are probably the best options. Wait staff is quick to sat you in either their booth area or in the table area. Their service to get you drinks, take your order, bring the food and ask of you need anything else os at their pace. Eclectic memorabilia on the walls for decoration. Danny's is a place you come to grab a bite to eat for a reasonable price with no frills.

Just like I remembered. The staff is still the best. I got nostalgic and cried a little. I want to thank Miss Kim for putting up with me. Wonderful lady! The food is still the best deli food ever in this country. I got there as they opened (11:00am). Memories flooded in. It took me a while to get my memories back about the menu (and eat a good portion of the pickles) then I finally ordered. I was trying to save room for dessert. Didn't happen! I could only finish 1/2 of my sandwich! I also only finished 1/2 of the potato salad. I wish I had thought to get dessert to go. They had carrot cake yesterday. I felt at home and life was good again. I wish I had photos to share but I was so excited about being there I completely forgot. Still the best Deli in town. My gratitude to all at Danny's Deli!
