We had a wonderful night at Gastro for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised to find out Wednesday was burger night. Bf loved his burger & we both enjoyed his sweet potato fries (the dipping sauce is phenomenal)! I got the grilled chicken with Brussel sprouts & mac and cheese which we shared. Everything was amazing, best mac I've had in restaurant since relocating to this area, but the Brussel sprouts were honestly the best I've ever had anywhere.The man in the kitchen knows what he's doing & he's putting love into that food I've struggled to find anywhere in Newport News.And my drink was delicious!

Unpleasant person answering the phone when placing my takeout order. Picked up my meal; there weren't untensils or napkins provided. When asked about these items, I was told they were out of utensils and the same unpleasant person who answered the phone hands me a stack of napkins. Probably will not patronize this place again. Food was ok, I ordered the Cajun Pasta. Based on price, it could have at least come with bread. Nit to mention parking was ridiculous.

We went here for a date night, we were the only ones there other than the staff. Over all it's a cute place, not very big inside. The music was piercing loud for having only two people sitting which kind of sucked. The food was mid and the waitress wasn't very worried about what we needed etc. we more than likely won't be back

I like Gastro at 23rd. I didn't know it was there but it was a pleasant surprise. The space is small but it's well decorated and laid out. The appetizers were good portions. It's mostly the usual bar type food. They did have some local craft beer available. They offer both can/bottles and drafts. I would go here again.

Rating: I had a rather frustrating experience with Gastro at 23rd. I scheduled a crucial meeting during their advertised lunch hours, expecting a professional setting and quality service. However, upon arrival, I was met with locked doors despite clear signs of staff presence inside. This situation not only disrupted my plans but also reflected poorly on the restaurant's reliability and commitment to customer service. There was no notice or explanation provided for the unexpected closure, leaving me and my associates in a difficult position. The lack of communication and disregard for customers' time is unacceptable, especially for a business in the service industry. It's disappointing to see such negligence from an establishment that otherwise seems to have potential. I hope Gastro at 23rd takes this feedback seriously and improves its operational consistency and communication with customers. Unfortunately, due to this experience, I am hesitant to plan future visits or recommend it to others.
