My daughter and I visited for the first time and had a good experience. The hostess met us with a smile and hello. I told her this was our first time. We asked about popular dishes. She provided recommendations and even showed us her meal. We settled on turkey wings, cabbage and Mac-n-cheese and beef liver with potatoes and cabbage. Both meals were good. We enjoyed the atmosphere, friendly staff and food. We will be back.

I feel like they ripped me off today because I had a big order plus low on staff. One of the staff members said that we were blowing her " High " and she was going to roll up after we left because she didn't know if was going to be a lot of us. We called and made reservations a week early.

Ordered through Doordash , fried okra, mashed potatoes & fried gizzards lol & it's really good. The okra is cooked well the mashed potatoes looked like stuffing at first but the taste is really good. The gizzards are fried hard & taste good. I'm impressed.

Visit this place for lunch spent $12.80 on 4 hairy wings and the Mac and cheese appears to only have cheese on the top. They should be ashamed to call this soul food. They need to also have new menus as the price for lunch specials read $7.75. Unfortunately, I will not be returning or recommending, we don't eat like this in Philly!

The food was good but the amount of fish I got for the money ($67) I spent was unacceptable. I ordered two Tilapia dinners and one Catfish dinner. Each dinner only came with one small piece of fish. I called back to the restaurant to make sure I wasn't tripping. The person I spoke to on the phone was polite but did confirm that they only put one piece of fish in those dinners and that is normal. The whiting is the only fish that comes with two pieces. I've been going to Martin's since 2019, now I could be wrong, but I remember getting more for my money. If this is the new norm it's going to be hard to continue to support this business.

Food was not fresh you can tell by the hard dry texture of the meat, the dark breading, and how soggy the pork chops were that the food had been refrigerated and reheated next to no seasoning or flavor in the greens, yams were pretty good so I guess that’s where the one star would come from would not recommend martins is not what it use to be smh

6/8/2022!! No Good. Fat all over the Oxtails. I can’t make this up. Look at the pics. It tastes worse than it looks.

The staff was friendly. The food was ok but overpriced for the servings. My chicken was old, dark black and tasted burnt. I'm thinking because it was the end of the day (near closing) and they refried pieces of chicken that were sitting out all day. I asked for 3 different menu items but they were all sold out for the day. So I settled for the chicken. My advice, go at least 2-3 hours before closing. We arrived about an hour before closing and it was slim pickings.

Some of the best service at a soul food restaurant in Newport News. The first thing I saw the very first time I walked into Martin's soul food was Marcus's smiling face. He is pleasant, professional and friendly. Yall head on over to MARTIN'S SOUL FOOD and get some delicious comfort food. It is sooooo worth it.

This has to be the worst soul food place in the whole state of Virginia, the service is terrible and the desserts are even worse. Only giving 2 stars cuz I actually liked the food 1 time I went even tho I waited 45 minutes for wings and fries. I definitely don't recommend this place especially if you're on a schedule

We had the pleasure of stumbling over this wonderful establishment today. We were traveling back to MD & our intentions were to have a late breakfast at IHOP but the wait was too long so we decided to try Martin's Soul Food. The restaurant was clean, the food was excellent & Dominique was courteous and welcoming. The wings, whiting, j*** chicken, chicken livers, cabbage, yams, mac & cheese and collards were all delicious. You just have to be patient because the food is cooked to order. Trust me, you won't be dissatisfied.

Very disappointing food experience. The food quality was very low. The best part was the outstanding customer service. The mixed greens were extremely salty and could have benefited from simple, fresh ingredients like onions and red bell peppers. The rice was bland. The rice portion to protein was significantly imbalanced. There were many hard rice grains in my serving. The meatloaf, although shaped like a meatloaf, was very dry and tasted more like a square hamburger. The cornbread was ok.The food quality is not reminiscent of "soul food" and I'm embarrassed by the absence of quality soul food that Martins Soul Food Restaurant is selling at this location.
