Took my wife there for her birthday and had an Absolutely Great time!!! The Atmosphere was Amazing but what made it Amazing was our waiter Vaughn Peterson was Hands down the Best Server We had anywhere we have been!!!! Just him alone makes us wanna go back and have him every time. The manager I think Scott was Great too making sure the food and everything was good. If you go Ask to be seated in Vaughn section you definitely won't be Disappointed

Grilled salmon was heaven, I would have preferred asparagus over the broccoli but that was not a choice. Cake was delicious.

Went here for the first toddler-free date night in a while, and it was such a warm, welcoming, and relaxing environment (even with other young families around). Enjoyed dinner on a Tuesday evening and was impressed to see a full parking lot, but gratefully no wait for a table. The hosts opened the doors for us when we walked up, a truly nice touch of service!

They had an entire gluten free menu with a lot of options which was very appreciated. Our waitress was willing to get answers from the kitchen about it preferences before ordering. Everything we ordered we thoroughly enjoyed (2nd Street chips w/pimento cheese, the tomato soup (omg!), Grilled tofu dinner, with all the sides, beet and goat cheese salad, and veggie burger patty (the least exciting of all, but still good)).

We can not wait to return and absolutely recommend. Surprised to have just discovered this place. Has hotel restaurant vibes, but is welcoming and the staff was all fabulous.

Food is always good, as it was this visit. Service was a little slow, but it gave us a lot of time to visit.

We had Al, is an excellent personable server and Denise makes a great Cranberry Mimosa. Food was exceptional and atmosphere great!!!

The only good thing about my evening was my waiter Allan. First of all, the website emphasizes and states that it’s an upscale casual restaurant, yet people were walking in wearing shorts, tank tops, sweatpants, etc. Secondly, when I walked through the door, I was told that the only option for me dining alone would be to sit at the bar. I said, “I want to enjoy my dinner.” The host in training, I believe, said he had to ask his mentor. His mentor said it was suggested and recommended but not required for a single person to sit at the bar. I too am a paying customer; just because I'm dining alone shouldn't require me to sit at a bar when I want to enjoy my dinner at a table like other humans. I was annoyed by the dress code and my welcome into the restaurant. The only good thing was my waiter, Allan. The food was delicious, but I’m chalking that up to the kitchen staff and Allan.

If I could give more stars, I definitely would. Our server, Kristy was a delight. Very helpful and sweet.

Second Street is a beautifully professionally run establishment. you are greeted upon arrival with a pleasant hostess. the decor is so very eloquent and upscaled. the most fantastic waiter warmly welcomes you. the menu selections, lunch, graduation or dinner was so plentiful. but the very best was that i do not like grit cakes. i love shrimp and grits but they do grit cakes. the very pleasant and accommodating manager was so concerned, he surprised our table of five with a sample of grit cakes. they were soooo good. they were delicate, tasty, and smooth well made hominy grit cakes. we had truly plentiful genuine lump crab cakes with grit cakes, stuff flounder with crab and shrimp and grits. i love veggies and the succotash was fresh and plentiful. oh my. wait to you see the dessert offerings. a pleasure to experience. i was visiting my virginia family from georgia. will make second street my go to restaurant when visiting. they will continue to visit. oh such a beautiful experience. i so highly recommend. treat yourself to a very highly rewarding adventure with the most professionally sincere staff at Second Street Restaurant in Newport News, Va. carmen tuggle and the Brown Family.

Management here is amazing. I believe the manager I spoke with is Charlie. Thank you for hearing me when I had an issue.

Today was my first time coming here and it was amazing to say the least. Our server was really great, the food was good & it was a really nice experience. I spent about 35 dollars on a entrée and one drink. When we got there we had about a 25 minute wait to be seated which wasn't bad just wish they had a seating area for waiting. Other than that I give this a 9.2 out of 10 overall.

The food and service was amazing! Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Loved my turkey burger and onion rings. Will definitely return when in that area.

The vegetarian options are not gluten free. The waitresses are loud & obnoxious as they shout at each other. Overpriced for crappy food.
