The atmosphere was upscale and service was ok for the most part. I asked the waitress what a popular dish was just to try something that should be semi impressive to my palate. She said the steak pasta was a popular one, but I was disappointed to say the least. The best, or only actual good part of the meal in my opinion was the steak bites added to the pasta. The pasta itself seemed a bit hard and undercooked and tastes like they just added steak to a hamburger helper meal. I also ordered a shock top to so with my meal, and I know the taste of blue moon and shock top quite well. Whatever I got was not either of those but more of an IPA taste. Either, or, it is quiet and nice inside, and the servers are friendly, but I do not think I will be returning again if that was the more highly recommended meal to try.

A Delightful First Visit – Felt Right at Home!
Visiting from Maryland, this was my first time dining at 2nd St. American Bistro in Newport News—and it absolutely won me over. The atmosphere had a warm, inviting ambiance that made for a truly relaxing experience. Our servers, Angel and Taylor, were exceptional, friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful with food recommendations that turned out to be spot on.
I tried the Crab Norfolk, and it immediately brought back flavors from home—such a comforting and delicious dish. Angel and Taylor made our visit extra special, and I’m so grateful for their hospitality. I’m already looking forward to coming back again. Thank you both for making this such a memorable meal!
This is the closest we have to an urban urbane bar in 23693. Good people good times! Expect a short wait during Happy Hour.

We recently dined at 2nd Street American Bistro in Newport News for the first time after seeing its high ratings and positive reviews. The atmosphere was definitely a highlight—clean, modern, and welcoming, with comfortable seating and a nice overall ambiance.
The food itself was flavorful, and we ordered a variety: the Steak Bistro, Smoked House Burger, and Sweet & Spicy Honey Chicken Sandwich—all with fries. However, the experience fell a bit short in several areas.
Our server was extremely soft-spoken, to the point that we had to ask him to repeat himself multiple times just to catch what he was saying. The food also took longer than expected to arrive. When it did, the presentation was decent, but there were a few disappointments. The steak portion was noticeably small and left my husband still hungry. Both the burger and chicken sandwich had soggy bottom buns, which made them difficult to enjoy fully. We also had to request more ketchup after only being brought one small serving for the entire table.
While the visit wasn’t terrible, it didn’t quite live up to the hype based on reviews we’d read. We appreciate the clean environment and good flavors, but improvements in service, portion sizes, and food quality consistency would make a big difference. Not sure we’d return, but it wasn’t the worst first try either.

They have a separate gluten free menu with options. I had the crab soup and lump crab meat with home made chips. They were all pretty tasty.
