Don't waste your time & money. The food was subpar IMO. The sides were not warm and the meat was so so. The only thing I enjoyed was the salad bar & grilled pineapple. The drinks looks pretty but was watered down alot.
I know my plate has everything touching. But as grandma always said, "It all goes down same pipe," this was from the buffet. I wanted to try a bit of everything.
We were in town for one day. We used google maps to find a place to eat. We selected another restaurant but once we arrived we selected TBG. GREAT choice. We were told there would be a 30 minute wait but it took only 15 minutes. The service was great. The food was excellent. I over ate.
So, I wrote this review a month ago, but it never got posted, even though there was 13 views. Clearly Tucanos or whoever blocked my review and censored me. I even emailed [email protected], as I noticed this to be the replies on here, but I was kept on read and no reply to my comments. Take 2: My family and I been going to Tucanos for years now, and multiple times throughout the years. We've even recommended them to friends and other family. Although we're from Va Beach, we take the drive up for dinner sometimes. We've never had a problem, until last week when my family and I went. Last week they were running a special for $23, which the waitress told us was $20.23 as a new year special. The misinformation is our first complaint. After dinner, I signed the bill, and I thought everything was fine, as I didn't feel Tucanos would rip us off. They'd treated us well for years. It wasn't until a few days ago when my sister checked the bank statement and realized that the price was more than what she anticipated it would be. We lost the printed receipt and we based our calculations on $20.23, not $23. So, I called Tucanos to clarify and she texted me the receipt. I realized that they tip on the entire bill, including tax, not on the subtotal. When I explained this to the manager on the phone, she gets mad and tells me that I could've clicked on "custom tip" and choose how much to tip, and it was my fault for not seeing that option and for trusting their preselected percentages to be accurate. Even after doing the math of 20% of the total bill (subtotal+tax), the tip was even $5 more. So, all the years we've been going, we've been tipping more than we should be, $10-30 per visit, as we normally reserve between 6-10 people per visit. I'd advise patrons to check the tip options on Tucanos credit card machines and to make sure you get clarification on the discounting pricing specials. I guess we'll be looking for a new restaurant to go to for our family gatherings, as Tucanos has let us down. In addition, my sister and mother's birthday month is January and we were at Tucanos to celebrate, plus my sister was heading back to school out of state, and when we thought it was $20.23, it was a good deal as we would've saved $68 on our meal. However, with it being $23, we only saved $48.65. Had they used their free birthday dinners, as we planned, we would've saved $60. The "New Years promo" cost us more money then what we were going to spend.
food is good, however they do not come often, you can see those servees just hangin around in the grill area while those who are seated in the enclosed section gets all the meat they want. servers also chose their way of offering meat to costumers
After reading the reviews I was a little hesitant to dine here but we went ahead and decided to try it. It’s a nice area and nice atmosphere. The service started a little slow being helped but picked up quickly. The salad bar was good with many choices. The crab bisque was excellent. We tried about every meat they had and all were very good. At the end we tried the fried fish with mango sauce, if I had eaten that earlier I could of made a meal out of just it, it was outstanding. All the servers were polite and personable. The restaurant was extremely clean with nice decor. We will definitely return again.
The space is tastefully decorated and the servers were friendly. Unfortunately that's where the good stuff ends. Some of the food on the buffet was good, except the hot stuff and the sushi (crab) rolls. They stored all the serving utensils inside the hot pans so they were super hot, like almost burned by the soup ladle hot. In addition they had all the hot foods, way too hot. The sushi rolls were also dry and shriveled. What kills this review was the meats. The chicken and pork were so dry they were completely inedible. The only really good items were the tenderloin and the pineapple. The rest, not so much. The service was good, but they were a little in the weeds with only a fraction of the tables seated.
This was a first for our party of 8. We've been looking for a Brazilian Steak House (Texas de Brazil) since the one in downtown Norfolk closed. This place wasn't extremely busy but for some reason the host sat us in an already busy section. It did take a bit of time to receive our drink order so I did ask our server to see if it was ready. We were very hungry and came for the meat (who doesn't, right?), but it was v e r y slow coming out. Until I spoke to the staff serving it and told him for a table of 8, our green/red battan would stay on green, so keep the meat coming. Once I told the individual that, everything started getting much better.I also let our server know to keep the plates removed so we could make room for the fresh meat coming. That was then done and we had a good flow of meat, and room at our table.Xavier, Jax, and Eli were our staff and made our birthday meal enjoyable once we explained our expectations. The desserts aren't bad but I'd stay away from the Cream Brulee unless they torch it a bit more. Ours seemed a tad under done.I'll be coming back to try this restaurant again and will update this with a 2md review!
We came in this past Thursday evening. We did not have reservations, so there was a brief wait. Sooner than we expected, we were seated. Our main waiter was very attentive, friendly, and accurate. The food kept coming at a good pace. The meats were hot, fresh, and flavorful. The pineapple was very good. I was there celebrating my birthday, so my wife and I ate for the price of one. I am looking forward to going back!

Good service !!good food!
Had a delicious dinner here tonight! The gauchos kept coming back to our table with many cuts of beef, chicken, pork, pineapple and fried fish. Needless to say we left with our bellies stuffed!!
great food and service good time's
Food was good. Server was good. Rob was great. But one of the individuals who brought the food to our table was incredibly rude, which was odd as of the rest were great. Luckily we were pretty much done and didn't have to deal with him anymore. Still ruined a great experience. But than again he came in and walked past us in pajama pants on his way to the bathroom to change, so maybe no awake and grouchy. Shouldn't be a server.
Great experience! Staff was friendly and the food was very good. The grilled beef and grilled pineapple were exceptional. The flan was amazing (5 stars!), and the salad bar was top-notch.
