It's a neat place, but parking is hard to find during events, you can end up parking way down the block on the street.
They have a lot of theme parties and events. It can get loud and hard to talk, there is a patio with 2 pool tables.
The food is good, but don't ask for refills on soda thinking they are free. Drink and food prices are ok, about $30-$50 a person. Food can take a while to come out when there is an event, up to an hour wait.

Food was good. Resealable priceing, comparable to other restaurants for similar items. For goth night, it seemed off and more rave music, but could just be my interpretation.

I had never been and my partner and I went in our couples costume, so we didn't know what to expect but everyone was welcoming and there to vibe it was wonderful!

Rude and inhospitable staff. Management is entirely pompous. Dc clubs are so much friendlier!

I have been going there for years. I just was trying to go there with my Service dog. By the way I have papers and I was told I was not allowed. I will never give another dime to this establishment. I hope you don’t either. They are not abiding by federal law not that that matters anymore. Dawn Vasquez disabled retired American veteran with a service dog.

Goth night is pure magic. I’ve danced in dark corners from coast to coast, and this one easily ranks among the best. The DJs keep it deliciously on-genre (so no emo or metal detours, thank you very much), and the floor never stops moving. If you’re looking to unleash your inner creature of the night, don’t miss a set with DJ SailorGloom or D.J.S.H.O.D.A.N. And for those still clutching old club drama - leave the ghosts of the past where they belong. This night is finally done right. 🦇🖤

A lot has changed since my original review. I couldn't give an unbiased opinion. So I'll share what I've heard.
It's not a real Goth night.
They don't play Goth music.
Many people ask for alternatives. I recommend Fallout RVA in this case.
Some people don't feel safe from predators and bullies. They feel like they can't address management and get results without fear of retaliation.
Parking has always been non-existent. Get there early, or park up to 3 blocks away.
Food is always good. So is service. Last call is much earlier than most bars in the city/area if that's an issue for some. Especially on a Friday.

Everything was perfect. Everyone was friendly during friday goth night up until I got kicked out just because of a band shirt that I like the music of (Burzum) but the person is controversial. It was only one guy which got offended out of many friendly and awesome people and meeting with them. I stayed at the place for 4 hrs until someone got offended and kicked me out. If it wasn't for that I'd give 5 stars. I wasn't causing a ruckus or anything and many people liked me and I loved the music, just hate that there is no freedom of expression which goth is about freedom of expression.

Zen is an oasis for eclectic artists and outrageous performers. It's where you go to step out of the insanity of the outside world to enjoy the loving embrace of inclusive joy and companionship. The bar staff is kind and attentive. The food is tasty as hell. I really could never say enough great things about Zen. Whether you're a performer or a patron, 37th and Zen is a welcoming haven.
This place is actually amazing, great shows, lots of characters to meet.
