I cannot say enough about the food at Canvas Social Cuisine ā it was absolutely breathtaking. Each bite was a masterclass in flavor, presentation, and passion. The chef isnāt just cooking ā heās creating an exquisite, memorable experience that stays with you long after the meal ends.
Every dish I tried was perfectly balanced, fresh, and full of soul. This is not just food ā this is art on a plate. Iāve already told my friends and family, āYou HAVE to try this placeā ā but Iāll add one condition: the chef MUST be there. His touch, his creativity, his presence ā it makes all the difference. I need his food, and no one elseās will do.

Canvas has an amazing atmosphere. The energy is on point but not over the top...and that's good. They play a nice variety of R&B, and the servers are all cool. My food and drinks are always good, and I enjoy their happy hour specials. I'm looking forward to visiting more often this summer.

When I first moved to the area and learned about cava I loved it I could eat it literally every day. But the more I went the worse it got the service absolutely horrible. You have one person doing everything because the other eight employees that are standing there are all too busy chitchatting and talking and worried about what the other people are doing. I can never order without somebody leaving my food there to go take care of somebody else and by somebody else I donāt mean customer I mean other employee, an employee took their lunch line to get their order took us 30 minutes just to get our food by the time we got it. Anything that was hot was cold because this employee had all the other employees waiting on her. God forbid the cashier be able to complete a transaction without stopping what theyāre doing the other day. I was the only person there the only person Had to be at least 10 employees working the place was absolutely disgusting. The girl Aubrey that was waiting on me. She was good. She was quick. She was prom. She had all my stuff down, but Iām like great. Iām gonna get out of here and have enough time to eat my lunch after ordering my lunch for the first time ever Midway completing my order. A random kid walks up and says hey Iām here for an interview. The girls stopped in the middle of completing my order and went to find whoever in charge of the interview then continued my order stopped again to give this interview person a cup so he could get a drink. Why couldnāt I just cash out and leave before you took care of him there was no one behind me . You have some employees and then you have some employees that do. The service is horrible all the way around and the place is like thereās no cleaning thereās no stocking. Thereās no nothing and understand that thereās rushes in this and that like I used to work in the food industry for like 15 something years but come on man come on you got a bunch of young kids running around in here no adult supervision like what what the gloves are make their touching money theyāre touching their faces are rubbing their eyes, their nose freaking playing with their hair and then touching our food. I had to ask the girl to change her gloves three different times And Iām not petty like at all about like oh you had to touch a button or do this like Iām not petty at all, but the fact that she was rubbing on her face what yeah, I probably wonāt be coming back to this location ever again and it really sucks because I really truly loved your food. I was here three times a week and itās just horrible horrendous. and to top it off, I get into my car and all the way back to my work and Iām like I can eat. I go to get my hummus and my side pita itās not in the bag thatās cute. How aggravating that Iām paying for things that Iām not getting and I know what youāre thinking. Oh itās I got an additional.

It suckās because I love this place. I did. I went & had a group of friends meet me there for the first time. Nobody came and got our initial drink order. we had to hunt them down , once we did we figured to order everything now because the service was already headed terribly. They didnāt even come back to ask for a refill not once .. we had to hunt them down again to get the box & check. Sucks because as a black woman I really wanted to support them. We left a nice tip and left. Also they sat us directly next to another part too close in quarters.

Stopped in for a drink and a bite. Got the dinner entree shrimp and fries $19 asked if I could substitute for sweet potato fries was to told it would an additional $5. And I got 6 shrimp in a bowl that was made for a toddler. My drink cost $13. My sister got a $9 beer and a $14 shot. I paid$57.... NEVER AGAIN WAY TO EXPENSIVE.

Showed up 5:30 ish on Sunday. Got drinks that were made improperly, but just dealt with it, waited almost an hour for our apps and ultimately had to leave because our show started at 7. Still charged us 37$ for 3 nasty drinks that were supposed to be gin and tonics.

Canvas is such a unique spot in downtown Norfolk. The atmosphere is lively and fun, it's obvious the people working there are having a great time and it's hard to not vibe with them! I had shrimp & crab pasta in Cajun cream sauce- delicious and fresh seafood, and seasoned perfectly! The drinks are to die for. absolutely 10/10 recommend for a fantastic time
The food was good, drinks were bomb, the server very nice and the music made it a whole vibe. Iām only putting four starts because it was a bit pricey for the amount of food we got. Speaking for those that love good food without breaking their pockets.

First we went on a Saturday around 12 which is brunch. No vegan options available. This is the 3 time and never any vegan options. It took the waiter 20 mins to come back to let me know the cook canāt make anything for me. I asked for coffee , no coffee. My husband asked for something else and they didnāt have it. How do you have things on the menu but half of it is not available. The only thing good was the music. Also, the rest of the table was never asked about drinks. Would love to support black businesses but not spending money for poor service and no options.

This was my first time experiencing this establishment and I must say, I read the reviews first and I almost did not come and I would have made a big mistake, I absolutely enjoyed the food. The chefs name is Vision and the food was so good, our group of 4 agreed to go back tomorrow. We had great service, our waitress Alicia was very attentive to our group. As I stated before, the food was very good and well seasoned. I wish I had taken a picture of my meal. I ordered the flounder, cabbage, mashed potatoes with a side order of chicken and waffles, yummy.
