Codex Reviews
I’ve eaten here now 5 times. Gone for an evening date, family gathering of 8, and a regular dinner for 4 out and about in town. They can accommodate anything. The food is excellent, creative and unique. Staff is nice and helpful, and hardworking. This is a staple for me. Parking on the street hasn’t been a problem but also garages are available or uber if you are enjoying the neat drink menu.
Service was terrible, food was mediocre, at best. The fact that they automatically add a 20% tip no matter how small your party is is just wrong. Our waitress was MIA most of the time we were there and hardly deserved the “mandatory tip” we were forced to pay.
Great food. Interesting cocktails.

Codex is a standout restaurant in Norfolk, known for its consistent high-quality food and welcoming atmosphere. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, making it a great spot for families and special occasions. The menu offers a range of options, including vegetarian choices like the popular cauliflower dish, which is a favorite among customers. Highlights include the burger, fingerling potatoes, pork chop, and the delicious prosciutto and onion tart. The chef's attention to detail is evident in every bite, from the quality of the ingredients to the presentation of the dishes.
The restaurant's atmosphere is inviting, with a modern and clean vibe and comfortable seating. While parking can be challenging, as it is mostly city garages, the location is worth the effort. The service is fun and friendly, with staff who take the time to explain the menu and make recommendations. Customers have noted that the server's personality adds to the overall experience.
Codex is a great spot for special occasions or a night out with friends. The monthly brunch on the first Sunday draws a crowd, so arriving early is recommended to secure a spot. The Baklava Focaccia and Corned Beef Hash have received praise, along with the coffee drink, Revolver, which has a smoky flavor. Though some have mentioned that the Espresso Martinis are on the smaller side but packed with flavor, the overall experience is highly regarded. With its focus on real flavors, attention to detail, and welcoming atmosphere, Codex is a must-visit restaurant in Norfolk.
