The BBQ was absolutely horrible. The chicken wings were like crusty card board. The burnt ends were gooey fat with no flavor. My husband I and literally gave the food away. I ordered 3 different drinks and they didn’t have the ingredients for any of them. I ordered 2 different beers. They didn’t carry them. I ordered a Stella and got the last one. The atmosphere was fun, but there were so many flies. We only stayed for about an hour. Probably won’t go back.

Edit for 7/31/25: if you don't go to Hank's right now and get that Salmon BLT Caesar Salad!!!! Child when I tell you this salad was so delicious!! Go get it right now. Also thanks to today's staff who got my order ahead of a huge party so I wasn't sitting there for thirty minutes.
(2022) Went on a quiet evening and it was kind of chilly out back but we really enjoyed the place. Sat out back with some kiddos where they could run around a little. Food was great and drinks were flowing. Definite must go if you're in the area.
Fast service, good food, great atmosphere. Great for small to medium size events.

Drinks are good but ordered a Nashville hot to go and got pretzel knots instead. Please hire folk who know to read and write.
Visited on a weeknight. The waitress was very friendly and courteous, nice decor both inside and out with lots of games to play. The BBQ Mac and Cheese was really good, everything else was kind of dry and mediocre. With it being close to the university, be prepared for loud, fouled mouthed college kids talking about all kinds of their private business in public. Not the restaurants fault but a consideration if bringing a family out if you’re looking to actually be able to hear the people at your table.

Went with a group of people. The food was good, the beer was good, the problem was it took a very long time to get the food. This was rectified by staff and I understand they have new kitchen staff so I didn't let one experience sour me on the place. Nice atmosphere, staff were very nice and I even bought aT-shirt. I will go back and I am confident it will be a great experience.

I got the pleasure to enjoy some Cold Drinking Beer and Shishito peppers. Both were good. Yes, the name of the cream ale I enjoyed was called Cold Drinking Beer from Williamsburg, Va, and i got it for the play on of words. Parking is limited, but there is plenty of street parking.

Loved grabbing a few drinks and food here. They had Old Fitzgerald 11 on the shelf, a bit of a unicorn bourbon for most. Definitely worth the trip!

Hank's Filling Station: Fueling Fun and Flavor in Norfolk
Hank's Filling Station in Norfolk has successfully repurposed its unique space into a vibrant and consistently enjoyable destination for good food, great drinks, and a laid-back atmosphere. It's a place that feels authentically local and welcoming, earning a solid four stars for its reliable charm and offerings.
The first thing that strikes you about Hank's is its cool, industrial-chic vibe, born from its former life as a gas station. The outdoor patio, complete with string lights and often live music, is a fantastic spot to hang out, especially on a pleasant evening. It's spacious, dog-friendly, and creates a really relaxed and social environment that feels distinct from many other local spots. The indoor space is equally inviting, with a rustic yet modern aesthetic.
The food menu focuses on elevated comfort food and barbecue, and they generally nail it. Their smoked meats are a highlight – tender and flavorful, whether you opt for brisket, pulled pork, or ribs. The sides are also excellent, with classics like mac and cheese and collard greens done right. Their burgers are also a solid choice, and they often have creative specials that keep things interesting. Portions are hearty, ensuring you leave satisfied.
Hank's also boasts a very respectable beer selection, featuring a good mix of local craft brews and popular favorites on tap. Their full bar means you can also get a well-made cocktail to go with your meal. The service is typically friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive experience.
Why not five stars? While the food is consistently very good, it sometimes hovers just shy of truly exceptional or innovative. It's delicious and satisfying, but might not blow your mind with every dish. Also, because of its popularity, especially on evenings with live music, it can get quite crowded and a bit loud, which can sometimes make conversation challenging. The wait for a table can also be a bit long during peak times, a testament to its success but a minor inconvenience.
Despite these small points, Hank's Filling Station is a fantastic addition to Norfolk's dining and social scene. It's a great spot for a casual meal, a lively happy hour, or a fun night out with friends and family (including the furry ones!). It reliably delivers a great experience, making it a strong four-star recommendation.

It's a great place to hang out and eat great food! There are games to play outdoors, and they have a nice outdoor area. Parking isn't the greatest, but that's the area! Great bartenders and awesome music mix!

So my wife did a surprise 40th birthday party for me at Hank’s and let me tell you, I was THOROUGHLY impressed with the ambiance, food, and service. The food was AMAZING, the service was amazing; SHOUT OUT TO THE CREW who worked on 5/24 between 2pm and 4pm. They were really cool and just made us feel at home, especially since everyone who was in attendance were ODU alum. Did I mention the food! Omg those smoked wings were delicious. Hank’s is the spot for fun, family, and food! Go
Check it out if you haven’t. PS: I’m eating the Reuben sandwich whilst I submit this review…so good 😊

The best place for an afternoon (or evening) grapefruit crush in the sun (or by the fire pit). Enjoy the wings and Mac and cheese. Try a trivia night for a fun time!
