I give this place 5 stars. Their service was great. I was served by an elderly woman who made sure I was alright and knew what I was ordering; she also explained the menu as well. The food was authentic as it could possibly be. I wished I took pictures, but I had takoyaki, chicken teriyaki that came with miso soup and salad. The Takoyaki is easily the best I've had. It was a big size of 6, the octopus inside was also a nice size pieces it was so sweet and flavorful. The miso soup was also well made with seaweed and tofu. It was delicious, I'm not sure what was seasoned for the broth but it was delicious. And the teriyaki chicken was cooked perfectly. Only thing I wasn't expecting was that my rice was in a separate bowl and now on the plate with the chicken, yams, and pickled ginger. Definitely would recommend to someone who wants an authentic quick Japanese bite. They also have sushi and vegan options.

I wanted to like it but we got the dinner for two and it was very meh. My husband and I didn’t care for any of the sauces aside from the teriyaki which made for an extremely dry meal. Our service was very fast but the meal itself fell short. Sushi seemed to be fresh so if anything go for that.

If i could leave a negative star review i would. The server we had had the absolute worst attitude and continuously talked to us in a condescending tone that led us to leave before we could even start our appetizer. Sucks because the whole restaurant seemed like a really nice vibe, would never give my money to this place.

The place here Reminds me of home. Being Japanese I’m usually skeptical about Japanese places in America but this brings back childhood memories in Japan. The owner is so sweet but is usually very busy cooking. However she usually comes out to say hello whenever there’s time. Sometimes it is very busy but patience pays off bc I usually go here multiple times a week since being stationed in VA. Became my favorite hangout go to place
Had the chicken katsu curry with rice. It was everything I wanted and tasted fresher than other times I’ve had it in California. Very polite Japanese man at the sushi bar, I appreciate him. Paid $29, i am very satisfied. Everyone in the restaurant is quiet and polite. They have a slightly updated menus as well.

This was my first visit to Kotobuki and I was very pleased with my restaurant choice. The food was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere, cleanliness and service were exceptional. The most notable aspect of this restaurant is the considerable amount of vegan choices and menu variety. There is something for every member of your party. I was glad I arrived early for dinner because the restaurant filled up quickly. I will definitely go back.
