I don't recommend Luna Maya for takeout. Luna offers a standard quesadilla for $16 and gives the option to add meats, so that you can have a $20 quesadilla. Just make sure not to add extras because you won't get a plate on the side, you'll end up with less of the meat that you paid for.The larger the amount of sides you pay for, the less food you get. Now I'm broke and hungry.

The spicy guacamole was a welcoming dish to have, the combination of flavors surprised me. Follow that up with the stuffed poblanos was a good choice. Personally I think the rice was too dry. Had a few bites of the tamales which were ok but I was never a fan , however the wife raved about them. Our margaritas were very good and tasty.The decor is nice but typical for a Latin/ Mexican restaurant. Be forwarded that it does get very loud which makes it hard to hear the person across from you.
Drinks were good but food was really mediocre. Chips tasted like they were from the grocery store. I will say our waitress was very kind and attentive.

Chips taste stale and the tamales are overly sweet! The bartender was very sweet and offered something else off the menu.I want to love this place but the food is never worth it. Try Perro Blanco if you are craving tacos and margs.

Update4: Food is great, service is great. The one thing I miss is that pre-Covid they had decent wne selection.Update3: Still great food with reasonable prices. Service was great. One mistake by the kitchen but that turned out in our favor. Looks like a lot of turn over; didn't see a familiar face.Update 2: Everything was fantastic. We had our favorite waitress waiting on us so service was great. And the food is good no matter where you sit or whoever serves you.Update: Service and food still excellent but wine selection much smaller. Also Dos XX no longer in tap. Minor changes but I do miss the larger variety of wine.Service: Excellent, Food :Excellent, Prices : Reasonable. The servers are attentive and greet you quickly. The food is fresh not process looking like Mexican style cooking tends to look. The food is Central American which must be a kin to Mexican so the menu is familiar. Ample wine, beers and drink list. Tends to be crowded at peak dinner hours. We always have a good experience here

Luna Maya is my favorite restaurant in Norfolk! Always my first recommendation to people visiting. It has a great ambiance, perfect for a date night. Everything we have had on the menu has been delicious & the spicy guac is what dreams are made of!
I have been maybe 4 or 5 times and the food was great all those times I even recommended the place. Last night we got take out from there and the food was completely underwhelming. No flavor, less protein than usual and just overall disappointing. I won't be returning.

Health Department has been contacted and is reviewing my case.I ordered the chicken quesadilla dinner with beans and rice on Dec 26th around the hours of late 8pm. Unfortunately, I experienced food poisoning the next day. I didn’t have anything that day or following day that could make me sick. I was experiencing all the symptoms of food poisoning within 6-8 hours of eating at this restaurant. It’s concerning, and I suspect the chicken might not have been not been cooked properly, could have been old.This is a serious issue and I will not just say this to ruined a business. Health is very important and I don’t want anyone else going through what I am currently dealing with.
