Sandy and the server “Boss” have the BEST customer service, kindness and generosity. They are truly wonderful people. The food was fabulous on all levels. My sons and daughter in law dine here frequently and the staff are like family. Try this restaurant today!

I've been going to this location for almost ten years on and off and I've never had a single negative experience. Great pho and service.

I think they are understaff… ordered a to go food and I was home already when I found out they placed the wrong orders in our bag.. it’s kind of frustrating but good thing I am just 6 minutes away.
Place is kind of clean and food is fresh.

I think it took a photo of my food. I.will not be able.to recall the name. But I know.it was Tai food. Soup with leaves and meat .. yes with spaghetti in. I was justntryn to use the chopsticks for the food whi h was bizarre. So, got myself a fork. The food was good and the service was great. Definitely going back.

A Steaming Bowl of Perfection That Never Fails
In a city with a growing number of Vietnamese restaurants, Pho 79 remains the undisputed king, the benchmark against which all others are measured. This isn't just a place to get a good meal; it's a Norfolk institution that delivers an authentic, soul-warming, and consistently flawless experience every single time. It is, without a doubt, a five-star culinary treasure.
The heart of Pho 79 is, of course, the pho. The broth is a liquid masterpiece—a rich, complex, and aromatic elixir that can only be achieved through hours of patient simmering and a mastery of spices. It's so deeply flavorful that it could be served on its own, but when laden with high-quality, tender cuts of meat (the #9 with rare steak and flank is a classic for a reason) and perfectly cooked noodles, it becomes something truly transcendent. The accompanying plate of fresh basil, bean sprouts, jalapeños, and lime is always crisp and generous, allowing you to customize your bowl to perfection.
While the pho is the main event, ignoring the rest of the menu would be a mistake. The Banh Xeo (Vietnamese crepe) is impossibly crispy and stuffed with delicious fillings, and the Bun Thit Nuong (grilled pork with vermicelli) is a masterclass in balancing sweet, savory, and fresh flavors. The appetizers, from the crispy spring rolls to the fresh summer rolls with a standout peanut sauce, are the perfect start to any meal.
The atmosphere is exactly what it should be: a bustling, no-frills eatery where the focus is squarely on the food. The service is incredibly efficient and direct, designed to get a delicious, steaming bowl in front of you as quickly as possible. You come here for the flavor, not for fancy decor, and the constant crowd of happy diners is a testament to their priorities being in the right place.
Pho 79 is the real deal. It’s a place that delivers an authentic, high-quality, and deeply satisfying meal with unwavering consistency. For anyone seeking the true, comforting taste of phenomenal Vietnamese food, this is the beginning and end of the conversation in Norfolk.

I’m not sure if it was because this gentleman (who appeared to be the owner/manager) was there, but for the first time in a while of coming here the place felt much better! The food tasted like the first time I tried their food. It was perfect, beautifully plated, and fast service.

Pho 79 on 21st is always delicious and the staff is very friendly. I go there often and usually get the beef broth #4 or the chicken Pho. Both are excellent! Oh yeah, and don't forget to get a green tea boba.

This is the worst service I have ever seen. I told the waiter that the noodles were too hard and could be cooked softer. As a result, a bowl of uncooked noodles was brought up in less than a minute. I really couldn't eat it. Then the shopkeeper said directly that if you don't like it, you can leave. The service is really bad. I really don't realize how bad their noodles are, and there are so many Vietnamese noodles nearby. I won't come back. Their attitude is very bad.

Got some really good dishes from the Norfolk location. Hit the spot. I've had the Chesapeake location as well and haven't been disappointed yet
