New review Mar -2025: Se le fue el sabor caribeño. The Caribbean flavor has left.

This food is no longer made by Dominicans. The spices aren’t the same. The taste isn’t the same. Se le fue el espíritu. The spirit is gone.

The beans aren’t made with the same spices. The pernil tastes off. The plátano maduro taste rubbery.

I used to eat at this restaurant when I wanted home cooking. I even had a previous 5 star review before. This is not the same.

There are other authentic Dominican and Caribbean restaurants in the Hampton roads area. This is no longer it. They not like us.

In the photo on the left is what I got today on the right is what I’m used to and what you’ll find of you search for “habichuelas dominicanas”

STAY AWAY! This is not a Dominican restaurant. There's nothing Dominican about it. This place is under new non- Dominican management and it shows. It's run down and dingy. I ordered the pernil and was extremely disappointed, ended up with a two chunks of hard meat on my plate. Drunk guy kept coming by my table. He just sat there, uninvited! He snapped his fingers and the waitress brought him a beer! She knew i didn't walk in with this man. The place was almost empty.
They were playing Rancheras so loud, I could barely hear myself think.
No Dominican music, no Dominican flavor. I didn't feel safe there. If i could get negative stars, I would. Please remove the Dominican flag from your name. This place is a disgrace.

Amazing Potatos

A whiskey and coke was 14 dollars! The floors were filthy and they had children running around, and screaming. They didn’t even wait on me for like 10 mins even though there was only 3 other ppl in there

Please do not waste your money and health. Fried pork extremely salty and had a rotten taste. The yellow rice was cold. Overall just nasty!!!

Come before 8 or 7. I arrived an hour before closing and when I asked they had already closed.
I arrived at 8:50 and it closed at 10.

I enjoyed the food, the waitress was nice, it's a different ownership now, it used to be Dominican, now is either Central American or Mexican, I couldn't give more than 3 star on atmosphere, because the music was so loud, that I couldn't hear myself thinking.

The price is high, for meat and rice. The problem is if you get rice n beans then they ask if you want black beans or pento beans to put in a cup. So meat rice n beans then more beans add up to 20 dollars. I'm from the bx I can get a whole meal with two side dishes for 20 dollars.

Music is way too loud, I’m not sure if this is a Dominican restaurant because it is being marketed as one but I didn’t see one Dominican in sight the food is also different from the way it’s made in the dr
not bad but it’s not authentic Dominican food

Distasteful place. I came with my daughter excited to have a different cultural experience today . The experience was ruined . The hostess walked past my daughter and I and did not even acknowledge us. We waited 3 minutes before I spoke up and ask if we could seat ourselves. The server and hostess never acknowledged us once we seated. I wonder how OSHA AND THE FOOD INSPECTORS feel about having a baby behind where they serve food from. This place made me feel unwelcomed. Ruined everything. It was hard having conversation with my daughter explaining why we were being ignored. This business has no place in Virginia. I’ll be contacting the appropriate agencies . This seems to be a very common pattern with local Latin restaurants in Norfolk .

Food was ok in flavor, customer service was fine, the waitress was courteous but the music was way too loud, can barely have a conversation.

They don’t speak English but it’s an authentic Hispanic restaurant , didn’t really expect them too. Food was good but it’s not Dominican , it’s more Honduran or Mexican.
