I used to live in Virginia Beach … always LOVED Surf Rider - was very excited to see the “new” Surf Rider go into the old Laughin’ Gull!! It was the end of my vacation out there on Tuesday. I really wanted to try lunch here before my flight back home …My rating for service has very little to do with our actual server - I actually felt bad for her. I asked for a rum runner on the rocks … “I’m sorry, we can only do those frozen”. Wait WHAT? (I am a medically retired 40 year hospitality employee/leader) I asked how is it i can ONLY get a rum runner frozen? (I am assuming the 3 or 4 rums used for the drink are readily available behind the bar) but a Mai tai was available on the rocks. Server’s response was “I don’t make the rules”. I then asked if the flounder (pointing to the handhelds on the menu) could be prepared not fried. “ABSOLUTELY! That will be broiled then, is that ok?” When she ran through my side options - I realized she was ordering the dinner … I pointed out that I was ordering the flounder hand held … “Oh … that can’t be done broiled!!” Wait WHAT?? If I ordered the entree, I could get it broiled, but if I order from the hand helds, I CANT?? The answer again was “I don’t make the rules”I looked at my daughter in law and we both said … we should have gone to that other restaurantI ended up with the crab cake hand held - it was fabulous … the whole ordering process simply left a terrible taste in my mouth and I won’t be returning on my next trip out (this summer) to the East Coast

Great Food but the fact that you can't place to go orders on Friday and Saturday is simply insane. Look at the amount of business done by uber eats, grubhub etc. The customer base at large wants take out now more than ever. I have planned to get takeout from this location two times in the past month, the first they never answered the phone even though I called back to back about ten times. The second I was told they don't offer takeout on weekends. Why is it so hard to spend money with your business? I feel you may wan't to reconsider this policy as the general population is ordering more takeout today than any other time in history.
