Swell Charcoal Grill & Raw Bar

This place has the best steak I've ever had from a restaurant. My best friend is obsessed with the steak here. All the food is really good. The owner works there cooking and serving customers and is really nice.

My wife and I have consistently enjoyed Swell for several years. Service and food are exceptional! However, I'm posting this review because of something that occurred this evening. Two days ago, I received an email informing me of a new addition to their menu ...... she crab soup. My wife and I were thrilled and decided to check it out this evening. We arrived, order wine and a beer, and were informed that the she crab soup ran out yesterday. I'm hoping that, in the future, if the owner is going to advertise a new menu item, that item should be on the menu. If it is not available, the owner should consider sending an email to his VIP members.

A hidden gem. Spent my birthday dinner here. Atmosphere is a mix of diner and beach classy!!!! And I dig it. Cocktails are great, very good bourdon collection for a small bar. Oyster for an appetizer, pretty good. Idk, I used to apalachicola oyster from Alabama / Florida so these Virginia ones are just ….. ok. Wife had the rack of ribs which she loved. I had the RIBEYE……. and it blew me away. It was truly exceptional. 10 out of 10, seasoned to prefect, cooked on a charcoal grill with great char!!! Honestly the best steak I have had in years!!!! Definitely the best in Virginia so far!!

Great service and food! 10/10 recommended We had the Chicken Alfredo, steamed shrimp, steak, and salad.

Had crab cakes from 3 different places while in the VA beach area, and Swell wins the prize for having the best one!

What a fabulous restaurant. Greeted when we walked in with smiles...sincere smiles! Comfortable right away! Comfortable seating, GREAT atmosphere, and the food...where to begin... The crab hushpuppies with honey butter and remoulade appetizer and the seafood trio were PERFECTLY cooked. The wedge salad and that blue cheese dressing, best I have had in a long time. The service was exceptional. This place is my favorite OV restaurant!!!!
