I had a pleasant dining experience with my family at Tacos y Tequila in Ghent. It’s a great spot for enjoying Mexican food with friends and family. The restaurant has ample seating, making it easy to find a table, and parking wasn’t difficult to locate. The atmosphere was lively, filled with people enjoying their meals and the vibrant ambiance.
Upon entering, we were greeted warmly and promptly offered a booth with a high chair for my child, which was thoughtful. The menu itself is fun to explore—it’s a large, detailed menu with plenty of options ranging from street tacos and burritos to seafood dishes and chimichangas.
Our food arrived quickly, and the flavors didn’t disappoint. I had the chicken and rice bowl, which was flavorful with tender chicken and perfectly cooked rice. My family tried the burrito topped with fresh pico de gallo and tacos, all of which were delicious. The hot sauce was a standout, adding just the right kick to each dish.
The only downside was the wait time for additional service. It took quite a while before our server checked back in, and I wanted to order another drink but couldn’t due to the delay. It seemed like the staff was doing their best but was likely understaffed given the crowd.
Overall, the experience was enjoyable, and the food was worth it. I felt sympathetic for the staff as they were clearly working hard under pressure. Despite the wait, I will definitely be returning for the flavorful dishes and welcoming atmosphere.

Went on a fairly busy night but the bartender took almost 30 minutes to take my order, in between making drinks(I was sitting at the bar top). I had one drink and the Enchiladas. Enchiladas were okay, not good enough to order again and actually ended up making me sick that night when I got home. Guacamole was amazing.
All in all, it's the only Mexican place in that area. If they had some competition I think they would step their game up.

The Birria Tacos are one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The meat is so tender and juicy and the broth to dip it in has the perfect amount of spice. The churros are so yummy and great for sharing! There are also so many drink options. Such a good choice for delicious food and hanging out with friends.

Good experience our waitress was great however the one thing leading to the two star review was the bartender. We weren’t even sitting at the bar and she made one of the most undrinkable margs I’ve ever had (all four of us confirmed) and we had ordered better tequila. We asked for it to be remade, which I usually don’t do but since the first round was great it was weird. The bartender literally just sent it back and gave our waitress attitude who genuinely tried. I think this place would do great but they should fire the tattooed female bartender.

BE ADVISED! Most of the waitresses do not speak much English, and unfortunately I don’t wish to come here anymore for that reason. I was a regular who was always tended to very quickly regardless if they were busy. However these last couple times I was treated pretty poorly! I got charged for an extra dish I did NOT order. The waitress failed several times to tell me they didn’t have what I was asking for and took way too long to take any orders. I understand getting new hires is tough and takes a while for them to get used to, but please teach them to ask customers exactly what they want and how to timely respond. There was way too much miscommunication happening and I hope it gets better.

I come here at least once a month as it’s my favorite mexican restaurant on this side of the hampton bridge. So when deciding where to go with my sisters when they came to town there was no doubt I wanted to bring them here. However, on this day, my services I received was just horrible, and this is coming from a fellow server. I work in a very busy restaurant, so I understand and i’ve been to this restaurant while busy but this day it was not busy. Our server took 31 minutes to bring us water, after the first 20 minutes our mouths were hot from the salsa so my sister reminded her of our waters. Our server responded with “You have to wait, i’m busy”. We ordered a cup of guac that never came to the table, we never received our straws or napkins, my appetizer (street corn) came out after the entrees. My food came out incorrect, to which the server still tried to make me pay for by after leaving the unwanted plate on the corner of the table that we didn’t even touch after we told her it was incorrect .. just for me to wait 30 more minutes for the correct item. Again loveee this restaurant but the server was just horrible !

Tried this establishment for the first time since moving to the Norfolk area and was not disappointed. The atmosphere was very inviting, the food was great and Emir (our waiter) was fantastic. I would highly suggest trying this place out if you ever get the chance.
