Pav bhaji was good but the meat thali was a disaster. Blend and no flavor at all. Maybe it was old, when chicken starts to lose its taste. Came with bunch of other stuff that was average. Glad I didn't order anything else

We were there for lunch around 12.15. Ordered some dosas and a vada sambar. The dosas were ok but the vadas were done in some old oil, was dark brown and looked burned. Ordered some masala chai also -The chai was way too expensive and took a long time to get served. Terrible service and no order in which things arrived. For a café style place service was too slow.

Skip this place if you're looking for good Indian food. Indian is my favorite cuisine and I left this place almost feeling offended it was so bad. They must be paying for Google reviews because it's awful and expensive. We paid $90 for three people for lunch.

The naan looked like something microwaved from Aldi (4-inch diameter, no color or crisp), the butter chicken was bland, underspiced, and a gross pale color. The puri appetizer was the worst - a tiny portion of a chickpea potato filling made days ago with watery sauces. All served on the cheapest styrofoam plates you can buy at the restaurant depot.

It's obvious this restaurant is not owned by anyone who cares about the food. Just look at the decor. It's like a failed Indian quick serve chain.

Came in today to try the Paneer Butter Masala. Unlike the usual cubed paneer, it was mashed up, making it incredibly creamy and full of flavor. This unique twist made it one of the best versions I’ve had in the area. I paired it with garlic naan, which was soft and fluffy, but I found it paired even better with the rice, which balanced out the richness of the butter masala perfectly.

The service was friendly and attentive, with a courteous man at the register who made sure everything went smoothly.

I’ll definitely be back for more and highly recommend giving Tamrind a try if you’re in the area. It’s a true gem!

This hidden gem is outstanding!
The best Indian food in VA hands down! And the young lady at the front of the house also provided excellent service! Thank you so very much 😃

If you’re expecting real Indian street food, this isn’t it. The flavors weren’t there, the service was bad, and the prices don’t match the quality. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

Honestly such a disappointing experience. I was really looking forward to trying this place, but everything fell flat. The food tasted super low quality — the naan literally seemed like it came from a Costco pack, not fresh at all. The gulab jamun? Straight-up tasted like it was poured out of a can from the Indian grocery store. No flavor, not sweet and mushy.

The portions were ridiculously small for the price, and on top of that, the staff was rude and seemed like they didn’t want to be there. The whole vibe was off.

I don’t understand how this place markets itself as Indian street food — there was nothing authentic or street-style about it. Just bland, overpriced food and bad service. Definitely not going back.

Horrible eating, they serve store bought Indian items reheat and serve it

Disappointing experience. The food quality was poor, the staff was rude, and the naan tasted like it came straight from Costco. Portions were tiny for the price — definitely not worth it.

Been going here (for takeouts and dine in) over the years. My husband’s fav Indian restaurant. It is spicy just the way we enjoy our food so those with sensitive tastebuds should be aware.

My daughter's favorite. There is another Indian food place 3 minutes from the house but she begged to go here 30 minutes away and offered to pay for gas. How can you refuse a plea like that?

We had the biryani and the chicken masala. It was okay. Wasn't expecting food on paper plates. Service took a bit long for 2:30 in the afternoon. Naan was a bit on the heavy side, almost pancake like texture.

I’m from NJ so my standards are high but even the worst restaurant in NJ can’t make bad paneer butter masala as Tamrind. It was downright disgusting I had to toss it out. The paneer was shredded and maybe 3 cubes. I would not recommend eating here. I wish I had taken photos of the food.🤮

Food is amazing! Great vegan and gluten free options. Many dishes I've never heard of before. The lilva kachori appetizer was awesome!

I’ve eaten several meals at Tamarind, and have never been disappointed. The small storefront is simply and attractively decorated. The service is consistently friendly and prompt, with the food prepared “mild,” as I prefer, but still packed with flavor. My favorite dishes so far have been pani poori and eggplant masala. I keep telling myself I need to try other menu items (and I have) but it’s hard to forego this tasty combination. I’ve eaten at 4 Indian restaurants in Hampton Roads; Tamarind serves the best food—hands down!
