Great food and bar drinks for brunch!! Food hot and fresh. Never had potato bread and my breakfast was fantastic. Pretty outside seating. Definitely try Toast.

Stopped in for a casual dinner and left kinda impressed tbh. Got the crab cake toast with lemon aioli and a side of house chips. Crab was fresh, not all filler, and that aioli hit different. Menu’s creative without trying too hard, and the vibe is laid-back — mismatched chairs, local art, the whole thing. Staff was friendly but not fake. Restroom’s small but clean, no sketchy energy.

I visited Toast for the first time this past Friday. I was seated at a table. I layed my arms on the table and a luqid immediately covered my arm. As I looked around I noticed the baby seat at my table and a food all over the seat and floor. A waiter came over to clean the table but not the seats or floor. I then saw several flies and my friend arrived. I expressed my distaste and we agreed to leave. I will not return!

7/12/25 - I've been here few times now. I really love the aesthetic of this place. The entrance you go through the garden before entering the building. Every time I have been I am amazed at their Rosemary bush. There is some sitting right in front of the building and then some in the back that is shared with the place next door. They have nice drinks but can be a little bit more on the expensive side. I haven't really had any of their food but friends usually get their hot dogs or glizzy as they would say. I've only come at night to enjoy the bar scene. The additional back yard area with seating is pretty cool. They have shipping containers. The last time I went I got the Wanda vision for a drink and it was delicious. It was a nice floral tasting, which is my favorite. Like I said I really like the vibe here and love to come for some drinks and outdoor area.

Good food. Interesting location.

We sat inside and we had a serious fly problem. It was a little warm but nothing too crazy

Always love paying this place a visit whenever I'm in town. The chicken chili bowl was great but my son's egg, cheese, and sausage sandwich was the star of the show. They need to bottle and sell the sauce that's on that thing, never had anything like it before. Yum! yum! yum!

A Gem in Norfolk's Culinary Scene
A vibrant atmosphere, inventive dishes, and a welcoming patio make Toast a standout destination in Norfolk. While minor inconsistencies leave room for improvement, the overall experience is a delicious and memorable one, earning it a solid four stars.
Toast exudes a hip, welcoming vibe from the moment you walk in. The decor is a thoughtful blend of rustic charm and quirky details, with exposed brick, creative lighting, and an impressive outdoor patio that beckons on a pleasant evening. It’s the kind of place that feels equally suited for a casual brunch with friends or a more intimate dinner.
The menu is where Toast truly shines, offering a creative take on Southern-inspired comfort food. The shrimp and grits are a must-try, boasting a rich and flavorful sauce with perfectly cooked shrimp. For those seeking something a bit different, the selection of unique toasts offers a variety of inventive flavor combinations that are both satisfying and photo-worthy. The cocktail program is equally impressive, with a list of well-crafted drinks that complement the food beautifully.
Service is generally friendly and attentive, though during peak hours, the popularity of the patio can lead to a bit of a wait. While the quality of the food is consistently high, some minor inconsistencies in portion size and presentation have been noted on busier nights.
Despite these small critiques, Toast remains a top-tier choice for dining in Norfolk. The combination of a fantastic atmosphere, a creative and well-executed menu, and reasonable prices make it a place worth visiting again and again. It’s a true gem that contributes significantly to the city's culinary landscape.

At this point, for me, going to Toast is like putting on your favorite comfort movie after a long day. I’ve been going since they opened and I’ve loved to see how they have flexed and matured over years. They’ve put a lot of effort into their cocktail program and the bartenders are so sweet & knowledgeable without being pretentious. They are always eager to share their knowledge and don’t put on airs, even though they ARE all that and a bag of chips.
I love going when the sun has gone down and the lights are perfectly dimmed with the cozy brick surrounding you. And the jazz duo they have every other Thursday is to die for!!
There’s no better place to grab a drink and a bite to eat & romanticize your life.
Small celebration everyday, as they say.
