N Sycamore St in Petersburg is a gastronome’s fever dream. Who knew? Oyster Society, with eclectic menu and even more eclectic decor fits right in. Menu changes every three months. Small plates aren’t small and “manifestations” are manifestly magnificent. If craft cocktails are your thing, you’ll find something to suit. Deserts limited but are a work of art. Not for everyone but be bold and give it a go

We went to The Oyster Society yesterday to celebrate our anniversary/ Valentine’s Day. I had been working to get reservations for awhile and it did not disappoint. The ambiance is warm, mystical, and eclectic. The staff incredibly attentive and friendly. You start off with one of their unique cocktails. They then bring you a butter candle which they light served with black bread (made with cuddle fish ink). The wait staff then comes and explains the menu and all of the entrees because they change seasonally. They suggest you order like a tasting menu. We ordered the Sea Board followed by the Tartar. Richard had the scallops and I the duck. We then had the apple dessert. We took a good amount of food home. They take time between courses allowing you to really have an experience.I would highly recommend you go.The food is exquisite and unique. The staff knowledgeable and so attentive. This is probably my favorite restaurant in VA so far.

Good service in an eclectic environment. Food was acceptable but you will leave hungry. The best way to describe the food is ostentatious and pretentious.

What an amazing culinary experience. Cocktails from the bar were a real craft. The decor is a bit odd. The food is the highlight. We had the baked oysters, beets, beef tenderloin, and the scallops. Can not find a complaint with anything. And the service was friendly and personable. I’ll be back!

The best dining experience of my life. The ambiance, the food, the service. I have never seen anything like it and can’t imagine I will for the rest of my life except for when I return for that divine food. Chef is a genius!

An absolute delight, and a gem of Petersburg. The food was exceptional and it's quite obvious a lot of thought and ingenuity was put into it. I've eaten at a few Michelin star restaurants and the food, drinks, and service were on par with those.Dietary restrictions: They were most accommodating to one of our party's gluten restrictions.

Will be back! Cocktails, food, and service were all fantastic especially the sea board and scallop entree! Seating was the only thing I would change, it was awkward and slightly uncomfortable eating at a 2 top table while sitting in large wingback chairs.

Loved our experience at Oyster Society! The interior is so eclectic and moody, which set a great vibe for a special dinner out. All of the small plates were delicious, but the beets were my favorite. The scallop entree was also amazing, and everything was plated in a really creative, beautiful presentation. There were even a couple vegan options, including the carrot cake dessert, which was super unique and fun to try!

Very eclectic gem of a restaurant! The decor is interesting and very cool. There is enough arcana and oddities to make Mr. Ripley envious. The bartender created outstanding drinks for us (you definitely have to try the signature cocktails). We knew we were in for a treat when the butter for the bread (both butter and bread were infused with cuttlefish ink) was lit like a candle (it had a wick and everything). There were four of us, and we ended up getting five small plates and two mains, all to share. Everything was absolutely delicious, and our server guided us through the experience. The duck ham biscuits were my favorites, but everything really shined. I thought I didn’t care for beets until I tried theirs paired with goat cheese. The ahi pastrami on the sea board (a take on the traditional charcuterie board) was another standout. There are only two deserts, and we ordered both. One was a kind of baked Alaska—chocolate ganache center, ice cream, merengue (torched at the table), and an egg that, when cracked open contained a chocolate/chia seed liquid. I still haven’t figured out how they got that in the egg (I guess magicians keep their secrets close). The other dessert was a deconstructed carrot cheesecake with carrot sorbet (all vegan, but I wouldn’t have been able to tell). I would give the Oyster Society ten stars if I could. We live in Virginia Beach, but it was worth the drive out to Petersburg.
