Ordered food from DoorDash. Ordered the oxtail combo. Mostly just rice and 5 pieces of fried plantain. Feel robbed for the $21 I paid.

Upon entering the restaurant, we were not welcomed or greeted with any positive demeanor. In fact, our server was quite impolite and displayed an unwarranted negative attitude towards us. The food was satisfactory but not exceptional, and it was a bit spicy, which is not necessarily a problem, but there was no indication of the level of spiciness. It would be wonderful if there were more African restaurants in RVA. This particular restaurant had the potential to be much better, and the service could have been more courteous.

This place is terrible. Being so far from home to attend school, I was missing some Nigerian cuisines so I decided to try this place. The man in the front is incredibly rude, it surprised me because I have NEVER known Ghanaians to be rude people. Being a first generation child of Nigerian immigrants people can rarely tell i’m African, so they often treat me differently unless I introduce myself. My first problem was that I did NOT receive a bowl from them to wash my hands, so I assumed that maybe since they have a variety of cuisines they aren’t authentic and just don’t offer that. Nope! Older african man comes in and receives one. Then I ordered beef patty because they didn’t have meat pie… the patty was BURNT and hard. At the end when I told him to take it off the tab because I showed the lady the burnt party and she trashed it, HE WENT LOOKING FOR IT and didn’t believe me ! He even asked her why did she trash it. He was so excited to serve everyone FOREIGN but when I appeared in front of him as a regular Black VSU student he treated me disgracefully. I would never eat here again because this man is very wicked. May the rest of his days be full of hardship Isi ewu

This restaurant is total garbage!
How are you blaming customers for Uber drivers lack of professionalism? I called for my order to be canceled for pick up so I can reorder as delivery. I’m not from this city and definitely don’t own Uber company. Y’all stay away if you don’t want to waste your money. Y’all can keep the $21.

Absolute trash. Paid $22 for peanut soup and the meat taste hard as a rock. If you like overpriced and overrated West African food then this is probably your place.

I’ve been missing West African cooking, so I was excited to discover Sankofa Kitchen. I had the Jollof with fish and fried plantains and it was amazing! The real deal. I highly recommend and will definitely return. ?

I wanted to experience Jollof rice for so long, as my trip to Africa has been delayed I didn’t want to wait any longer for the rice. I decided to go to this place as I’ve always went there to enjoy Egusi and fufu. Today I decided that I would get the Jollof rice with chicken.. I was very disappointed the chicken was dry and the rice that I know as Jollof rice tasted like it was prepared in soy sauce. I understand different places prepare their Jollof differently but this was just not my cup of tea at all. I would never order that ever again and it was $20 ?. The Egusi and fufu was great tho
Parking: You need a truck to drive in everywhere has bad potholes and some spots have bricks inside the hole. Maybe for leverage?I don’t know. I just parked in the middle of the lot??♀️

If you want to spend $20 on two pieces of meat. This is the place for you. They are portions especially for soup is honestly laughable and they know it. You have more fufu than soup …they are getting over and they know it. The food used to be served in a different container for soups. And the food is mid at best, learn how to make it at home.

I just gave a good review on DoorDash 2 days ago. I eat here all the time. Last night, I found a piece of metal in my food. I was scooping out rice to share with my toddler. Not sure if it’s from the pan scrubber or what but I was so disgusted. Kinda sucks cuz their food is so good. Glad I didn’t swallow this. ?? I can’t eat here anymore.
