I don't know why they scooped out my baked potatoes, to put toppings on, but please make sure your toppings are fresh if you're going to do that. The bacon bits were hard as a rock and I couldn't eat it as it hurt my teeth. Didn't care for the staff either, i waited patiently to be seated and for some reason they took the people behind me as I was standing there. I let it go but then didn't get service for refill on my water. I don't care how bad the food is if my drink stays full, you'll get a 3 star minimum. Tired of tipping mediocre, and I usually tip thirty three percent, if you got a twenty percent tip you had bad service there. And I shouldn't be tipping that, but you won't pay your staff, and rely on the customer to do so.

The ribs were really good. The Mac n cheese was the best I've had in a restaurant. The Salmon was really good.
The service was terrible. It took a while for someone to come over and take our drink order. Once that was done she came back and started taking our food order. Right in the middle of taking our order a group walked in and started joking with our waitress like they knew each other. She left our table, WHILE TAKING OUR ORDER, and sat them down right behind me in another booth. She finally came back to finish taking our order.
She spent a LOT of time at that table chatting. She was walking back to the kitchen past our table and, while on the run, asked everything was OK at our table. She barely slowed down. Tge table behind us got their food before us. They were done eating and out the door before we got boxes for our leftovers.
She was not a young kid. So, she knows (or should have known) how to serve tables.
Go for the food DON'T expect good service AT ALL!

The food here is so bland. My husband got the catfish po boy and before he even bit into it I said damn that looks like a bland sandwich lol. I mean it’s pretty bad when you can tell by looking at something it’s not going to be good. Server was nice so that was the only good thing about the place. Would not eat here again.

Sanji was a fantastic server and the catfish meal was great. Will be back for sure.
We waited 35 minutes to be seated, and it wasn't even crowded. We took our order and we didn't get our food until almost an hour later! I tried to convince my aunt to go elsewhere after finding another restaurant with no wait, but that failed. Food finally came, and it was not worth the wait. The chicken was overcooked, and so was my sister's burger. My uncle's side order was incorrect as well. Overall, I won't be returning for the food whatsoever, especially since I was with a bus trip and lost alot of gambling time for it.
$4 dollar sweet tea!!!!! Food wasn’t bad. Expensive though. I really like the design and books everywhere.
The atmosphere was decent no complaints about the service but the food was not a highlight, could possibly eat here again.
Pictured above was my meal from my second day. The first day I had (catfish with the same sides) brunch with a girlfriend and we wanted to try something different and I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was, especially the sides, which I was craving ALL day the next day so I went back. I was a bit disappointed because the sides weren't as good as the first day but it could have been because I went a lot later in the evening.
The atmosphere is somewhere you can go with someone or either alone and really enjoy yourself. I've done both and it was amazing!!
The service was great both times but the servers don't seem to smile much and aren't really personable so if you like that style of service that is straight to business, you'll appreciate it.
All in all, I think this is another spot I will add to my regulars in Portsmouth.
Went to Rivers this evening to use some food comps and free play, Crossings Cafe didn't disappoint! Tamika and Aaron took great care of us and the food was awesome as always. I had the FLITP Crossings Burger and fries and wife had the Hampton Roads Salad. Great food, great value and great service, we were winners!

My guests and I came today at 1130 to dine in. It was 4 of us and we were expecting a few more in route (10 max). They said we couldn’t be seated until all the guests arrived. How is this customer service by not allowing the people that were present to not be seated? We will never return. Thankfully “The YardHouse” took care of us!!!
I usually enjoy my food and experience at crossing, however unfortunately I was very disappointed with my service on tonight.
I normally have a great experience with the lady that waited on me but I’m guessing she was having a bad day.
I ALWAYS order a shrimp po boy when I eat here, but tonight she messed up my order and I was given a “Catfish po boy”.
(Catfish sounds nothing like shrimp)
When I confronted her about this mishap. Instead of her apologizing, she became very combative and argued me down that I ordered a “Catfish Po boy. She displayed very poor customer service. She even stood at her register and argued in front of customers claiming I was wrong and that she repeated my order to me and I said Catfish, which was incorrect. What she repeated was my side options which were mashed potatoes and corn. (That part was correct)
Overall | she was wrong in how she handled the situation. Instead of fussing at me while standing by the register. She should’ve politely came to my table to address the matter. She could’ve said I apologize but I do believe you ordered catfish, however I will go ahead and have your order corrected for you. Something along those lines would’ve been better.
To MGMT: Please retrain her (Incident took place on 8-27-24 around 7:30pm or so check cameras if need be) Waitress is caucasian with almost shoulder length hair
I ended up going to Yard House and the food and service was Great!!

Terrible experience!! Server forgot to put in our order and waited an hour and a half for our food while everyone around us got theirs. Then our server just completely disappeared and the only thing the manager offered was a free thing of fries, are you kidding me?
Update** food was good

Where do we start? Crossing Cafe in Portsmouth, Va was very clean, atmosphere was very pleasant and professional. We were greeted immediately and seated promptly. Our server: Roxy was by far the most pleasant and professional I have seen in a very long time. We were celebrating our 33rd Anniversary and Roxy provided us with her well received recommendations on the menu. The food was exactly as she recommended. We truly enjoyed our meal with a new friend. We highly recommend the Crossing Cafe In Portsmouth and ask for Roxy!! Gloria and George Smallwood

The place is beautiful and VERY clean. The service is excellent and the workers are nice. I ordered the chipotle chicken sandwich with fries and it was delicious. My mom and I had to share because it was too big for me. My dad ordered the lemon pepper wings (they are fried lemon pepper wings!!!) with fries. Before leaving, we ordered the plain wings and the Louisiana penne pasta. I put a good portion of the Louisiana penne pasta on my plate because it was overwhelming ?. Overall, the food was hot and phenomenal.
