Date night for me & my husband, & we will be back! Very good food, great service, & all around good place. The owner came to our table twice and checked on how we liked things and our waitress was very attentive & offered helpful suggestions. Food was absolutely on point!

They don’t ever answer the phone. The online ordering won’t allow you to order same day. That’s just wild to me.

Ordered truffle fries with coconut shrimp. Got plain fries no type of seasoning on it and the shrimp was extremely salty also did not get the side sauce that was on the menu. I asked the waiter for it she said it wasn't one which wasn't true. This place was empty on a Saturday night. Why was it hard to make the food right ? wont ever return Drink was only thing good

We're on a road trip and we've eaten different great food every night of our trip. Guava has been the best so far, by a wide margin. Food and service was fantastic!! Highly recommended!

I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner at Guava! I began with the calamari, a must-have dish, which was cooked to perfection and paired with a delicious sauce. Next, I indulged in a beef patty appetizer, reminiscent of a classic NYC dish, and was so impressed that I ordered another to-go! For my entree, I opted for a crab cake (now sadly removed from the menu, but deserving of a comeback!) accompanied by creamy mac and cheese, flavorful rice and peas, and tender cabbage. The mac and cheese was particularly exceptional, evoking the warmth of a grandmother's cooking. The combination of sides was a delightful surprise. Guava's atmosphere and cuisine transported me from Virginia, providing an unparalleled dining experience. The attentive house manager (whose name escapes me) expertly balanced personalized service with discretion, ensuring every need was met. Even the cocktails were Instagram-worthy, with beautiful presentation! I highly recommend Guava for an unforgettable meal.

I enjoyed brunch here on a Sunday. The menu is unique and the food was good. I ordered oxtails and grits with a side of eggs. The flavor of the oxtails was perfect and the grits were smooth and creamy with a bit of cheese. The eggs were like the perfect scrambled eggs you would have a home--not like any restaurant scrambled eggs I've ever seen. Loved the green onion garnish. I also ordered a drink--cannot remember the name but it was the perfect strength, perfect garnish and great flavor. My waitress was giving us her very best service it seemed. She was very helpful and attentive. Many of the staff stopped by our table to check on us. I recognized many of the staff from (the now closed) Bamboo in Norfolk and they were very friendly and attentive as well. The atmosphere is good for brunch. Music is playing (by a DJ) but not too loud for conversation. Decor is nice and the location can be deceiving from the outside but you will not be disappointed once inside. I do think they should consider curtains or covering the backs of the booths near the windows so that it is not seen through the window. Good for small celebrations or groups. Will be returning to try more menu items!

OMG! Everything Chef Ponder prepares from his kitchen is exceptional. My visit today was to celebrate my B-DAY. Our brunch quickly turned into a day party for foodies! My guest snapped into a full food orgasm upon their 1st bite of the braised oxtails. GUAVA757, we will be back again. The service and music were perfect...

It took so long to get my food.. food wasn't hot... and an additional service charge to added to your bill. Bathrooms were filthy... they were out of several drinks...

My friends and I decided to try some place new and came across Guava. I’m not sure if this place is a restaurant or a bar. We went for brunch so I thought it’d be a restaurant, but upon arrival, it didn’t give off actual restaurant vibes. The music was entirely too loud - I couldn’t hear the person sitting across from me. There was hookah - it was fine, but wasn’t expecting it for a restaurant. The service was terrible - our waitress was very nice, but it took forever to get water. With that we decided not to order drinks. Then forever to get our food. We had to ask to refill our drinks and for the check when we were done. We couldn’t find our waitress so we tried asking the other waitress and she was very rude!! Our waitress did explain there were only two of them though so I understand it can be busy but it seemed like we were forgotten about. The food wasn’t what we expected either and my friends food came out wrong. The chef (maybe owner) came to our table and offered to remake it but we were just done at that point. I was looking forward to trying the island nachos but it wasn’t on the brunch menu - we didn’t know there was a separate menu for brunch. I see the potential this place has, but right now it isn’t there.

My sister and I decided to visit Guava757 during Portsmouth Restaurant Week. From the outside, we didn't know what to expect, upon entering we discovered that they were in the process of setting up for the dinner crowd. The hostess greeted us and gave us the option of being seated or coming back in about 30 minutes after the set up was completed. We opted to stay and were given menus to view while we waited. In less than 30 minutes we ordered cocktails (Guava Island 15 and Paloma 15) they were very good. For our dinner we ordered Oxtail and Curry Chicken, they both came with side dishes. The food was well seasoned and very tasty. Chef Tra even came to the table, he was very engaging with an inviting presence. The hostess Lady T was great and we enjoyed conversing with her, she has a very positive attitude and friendly disposition. We were informed that there is a dance club attached to the restaurant. We'll definitely be back to visit for dinner and may even check out the club area.
