I attended the grand opening on Saturday!I'm only taking off 1 star due to service being slow. I believe two waitresses were in rotation and we had Raven taking care of us. Us as in a party of 6!Although it was a grand opening, it took longer than usual to receive apps and cocktails. Nevertheless, this will not steer us away from this new spot, because the vibe is sexy, chill and lit at the same time. For the grand opening, a live band was performing and they were awesome! The lead singer was even working the room. Such a treat! My friends and I decided to try the cocktails and a few menu items.Items ordered: jerks flats, Mac and cheese and crab spinach dip, seafood cakes and seafood mac!Everything was delicious!I am looking forward to returning soon to try some other menu items. The steaks, porkchops, salmon... oh yes!! The menu looks very tempting. My lemon drop was on point. My husbae had crown and sprite, his was straight and a friend had an old fashioned, on point too!I highly recommend you go! They have a weekly happy hour too!Parking - we were blessed to find parking on the street. But there are parking garages nearby.Have fun and enjoy life :)

We had a reservation for two and were seating in the hall right by the bathroom. There were other tables available in the dining room. Not sure why we were put in that location. You can imagine the traffic by our table; not to mention, having to eat by the bathroom. We both ordered the Reuben sandwich. The bread was over toasted; it was very dry and burnt in spots. When you took a bite, it was very crunchy. The dressing was placed on less than 1/2 of one slice of bread. The worst Reuben I've ever had. The waitress only came to us four times in the hour we were there. We have been there in the past; a few years ago and it was good. We wondered why it wasn't busy on a Saturday night. We will definitely not go back.

Food was good. Kitchen seemed overwhelmed and wait was longer than it should have been. Wasn't much of a problem since we weren't in a rush, but I would avoid if you need to be somewhere at a certain time.

Delicious and unique food for a great value. Cute location and great service! Lots of authentic dishes - Schnitzel was spot on and Rouladen was amazing! Indoor and outdoor seating available - outdoor dining area was very nice.

We really enjoy The Bier Garden - even though it is an hour drive each way! Only authentic German food I know of in the area. Only slight draw back were the flies outside! Nothing they can do about - we wanted to be outside - and they were very accommodating

Food is always outstanding!! Our server was very kind but it took far too long to get the food. It was delicious as always but it wasn't busy enough to warrant such a wait. Wait aside, I don't believe you can order a bad dish from the menu. :)

Always awesome food! Service was slow this time. Somewhat out of the ordinary. My wife was born and raised in Munich area. This is one of a very few German restaurants she'll go to. Try the Aventinus beer! The best by far

Really cool place! Awesome food and sitting on the outside patio around 5:30 on a gorgeous day just made the whole e patience worth it. The food was really great and everything we had was phenomenal. Can't say enough about it. I had the schnitzel and my coworker had the pot roast. We had sides of saurkraut, purple cabbage, spaetzle and two other sides and nothing was left. Awesome flavors and food was cooked as it should have been. Awesome job to the cooks as well!

Great food. Great beer! We always enjoy our experience at the Bier Garden. The authentic German food is wonderful...takes me back to mother's cooking. Serving staff is helpful interpreting the massive beer list. The ambiance is great, too.

Really enjoyed our dinner; I had the Schweine Schnitzel and it was excellent; my son had some bratwurst and the wife had Rouladen. All were great, and for dessert we shared a German Chocokate cake (by 7 PM they had already run out of Black Forest Cake) a Apfel Strudel (not sure is the spelling was like that on purpose or not). My son and I both had some different beers on tap, they were great! Would recommend to everybody!

We lived in Germany for ten years. Sorry this was not good German food. My husband loved the beer that was it. The käsespätzle was horrible. We never had bad German food in Germany. But this was sooooo bad.

Normally love the Bier Garden, but something was off this time. Wife got the schweine schnitzel, with potato salad and cucumber salad, and that was delicious as usual. I got the gulasch with spätzle, and this is where it went off the rails. The spätzle flavor was bland and the portion of gulasch was very small. I'll continue to eat here, and will especially enjoy the very large selection of beer.

We absolutely loved The Bier Garden! My husband had wanted to find a German restaurant in the area but hadn't been able to find one until I found The Bier Garden on OpenTable. A nice and cozy and little place in downtown Portsmouth with great food and great service. Not really knowing much about German food, I read up on the menu before we got there. We both ordered the Sweiner Schintzel with the fried potatoes. Too much food for me though! I had enough for lunch yesterday! The service was great, too! The young lady was very knowledgeable about the menu.

Every February we drive 3 hours to The Beir Garden to celebrate our German heritage friend's birthday. He says it is the best German food around and we have to agree. See you next February! Your Maryland friends love The ambience too!
