I rarely leave negative reviews, but after sitting with this experience for 24 hours, I still feel compelled to share it. We first attempted to visit the Yoolks On Us location off Portsmouth Blvd. Despite the door signage and online hours indicating it was open, the location was closed. That should’ve been our first warning sign, but we decided to give their original Washington St. location a try instead.
Right at the entrance, there was a sign stating that an automatic 18% gratuity would be added to all dine-in orders. However, this was never mentioned by the staff during our visit, so hopefully all customers happen to read the fine print. The restaurant was busy, but you could still hear the soft background jazz, which was honestly the highlight of the experience. Unfortunately, the positives end there.
Be aware: the only drinks that come with free refills are soda and coffee. Tea, at $3.50 per glass, is not included. The food was disappointing across the board. My husband’s meat lovers omelet was small, barely the size of a folded appetizer paper plate. The potatoes were cold, and the toast wasn’t even toasted. My plate (eggs, sausage, and potatoes) was also cold, and the blueberry pancakes were overdone and chewy. Our server never checked on us after the food arrived. We decided to just finish what we could and leave, and only finally saw our server when they gave us the bill, 30 minutes later.
In total, our bill came to $55, including the automatic 18% gratuity, for one omelet combo, one blueberry pancake combo, and two teas. For comparison, two All-Star Specials and two teas (with free refills) at Waffle House runs about $35, and the food is always hot.
Maybe we caught them on an off day, but between the cold food, lack of service, and price point, we won’t be back to find out.

It was our first time here and it was a wonderful experience. We will be back! The service was quick, everyone was so nice and the food was delicious! We didn’t order but the mimosa looked amazing 😃 We had Spencer as our server and he even gave our kids lollipops at the end of the meal. Thank you!

I tried this place for the first time today. I got a meat lover. They didn’t add no meat other than bacon. I paid extra for avocado slices and got non. The house fries are just plain potatoes. -10/5

First visit and will definitely be back again! Once you level-set your expectations, you will enjoy a nice vibe in the ambiance and be rewarded with delicious food. As others have mentioned, the wait times can be on the longer side, so make sure to allocate enough time so you don't feel pressure or worried about getting your food, enjoying it, and making it to your next activity.
I ordered the Yoolks Pancake Combo with the potato hash and bacon. The potatoes were nice and crisp on the outside with a tender center. My partner ordered the Breakfast Combo with 2 eggs and cheesy grits and really enjoyed the food.
Although the food took some time to get to the table, the staff were very pleasant and helpful. They were working hard and take excellent care of you.
I am always willing to support locally owned business and look forward to coming back again soon!!

Out of town from Ohio! I found this place walking through this beautiful city and I wish I found this place last year when we came because boy oh boy what a gem! First thing I noticed was everything from the awesome friendly staff..the cleanliness was top tier..the atmosphere was a whole vibe music was nice rnb genre I even asked for an application ( trying to manifest a move to Virginia from Ohio and this could be by ticket out of Ohio lol) I ordered French toast and 2 orders of pancakes that my family loved so much. I can’t wait to come back next year! Thank you for the fine hospitality! OH! the new girl that was in training that took my order- keep up the great work! Rise and shine to you all! Cheers from Ohio!

Great food, good service, awesome atmosphere. Was seated quickly and the food was good. Waiter was very pleasant and prompt. I did not like an automatic tip and server would have gotten more without it being automatic. Just always leaves a bad taste in my mouth with forced and automatic tip. They should change that policy.

IF I COULD DO ZERO STARS I WOULD!!!! When I arrived at the restaurant, I was told there would be a short 5–10 minute wait. Instead, I waited over 30 minutes before the owner finally approached to ask how long we had been waiting and how many were in our party. Even after that, it still took another 5 minutes to be seated.
Once seated, our table was disgustingly dirty, and not a single server came to acknowledge us. Meanwhile, a group of four people — clearly friends of the owner — walked in and were seated immediately, with a server at their table within seconds.
To make matters worse, three other tables were sat around the same time as us and were also left completely unattended. This wasn’t just poor service — it was blatant favoritism, neglect, and disrespect toward paying customers.
This experience was beyond disappointing — it was insulting. I will never return to an establishment that prioritizes friends over fairness, and I’ll be sure to share this experience with others. Businesses like this don’t deserve loyal customers — or any customers at all.

I got the breakfast combo. Potatoes was cut a little bit too thick. Wish they were a bit smaller but the flavor was delicious. I didn’t like the sausage. I don’t know if it was the brand of sausage. Pancakes were amazing.

Had breakfast after church. All the food was perfectly made, especially the pancakes. Our waitress, Melody, provided great service and was so friendly.
