Melt-in-your- mouth pulled pork sammy. Good lord so good. Decent beers on tap, great staff. Feels like visiting friends.

Very poor quality of food. The brisket is a very fatty and the pork wasn’t seasoned well. The bbq sauce did not seem like it was made there and I could’ve just bought it at a store. The hush puppies were the only good thing I had here, the green beans weren’t even good. They should not serve liquor there if they don’t know how to make basic drinks… or even know if a mixed drink should have ice in it. I found this place on Instagram thinking it would be good, when I walked in it was empty and was not surprised after getting my food.

My fiancé and I recently moved to RVA and decided to try this spot after seeing several recommendations on Instagram. Honestly, I’m not sure how this place has an above 4-star rating.
For starters, we were the only people in there for our entire dining experience besides one person at the end ordering takeout. We ordered the two-meat platter with pulled pork and brisket (smoked chicken was unavailable, with a $4 upcharge) along with hush puppies and green beans. The total came to $58.74 with a 20% tip. The prices are comparable to most BBQ places, but unfortunately, the quality didn’t match up.
My fiancé ordered a beer, which was fine, and I got a Tito’s soda with lime. The bartender asked if I wanted ice—which threw me off, since it’s a mixed drink—and when I said yes, it came with maybe four cubes. I ended up asking for a separate cup of ice to fix it.
As for the food: the hush puppies were excellent, and the honey glaze was delicious. Beyond that, things went downhill. The green beans were under-seasoned, and while the pulled pork was moist, it had no real flavor. The brisket was the biggest disappointment—it didn’t cut properly and was extremely fatty, just like another review had mentioned.
The sauces didn’t help much either. We received two small condiment cups—one BBQ and one mustard—and I’m pretty sure they were both Sweet Baby Ray’s. Nothing wrong with that, but they lacked any vinegar or house-made sauces you’d expect from a BBQ joint.
Overall, it was a confusing experience from the drinks to the food. The meal felt overpriced for the quality, and while there were a few highlights, I don’t think we’ll be back.

Truth, we saw a video on Instagram and decided to check it out. I appreciate good 'que and Bar-Q absolutely fit the bill! The Pitmaster had me at the brisket :) As we placed our order, he was slicing some for a customer. I couldn't wait to try! He also cut some pork belly. I had the loaded smack and cheese bowl with pulled pork (my go-to), collard greens, ribs and candied yams. I also tried the cornbread (chef's kiss) and hush puppies. The portions were more than enough and the take-home containers were very convenient. I had to be rolled out, I was so full! An absolute go when you come to the River City! The customer service was amazing for the entire visit. Will go again.

Hands down the Best Bar-b-que in Richmond! Not just because of the food but the atmosphere as well. The staff here made me feel as if I was visiting family for a meal, and a good meal at that! Everything was delicious and those yams, those sweet sweet yams, OMG! Me and the hubby had to sit there for 15 minutes after we packed up what we couldn’t eat because it was a lot of food, we were stuffed!

The Main Street burger is the best I’ve had in Richmond! It’s pretty cool that all the meat is cooked on site as well. I live in the neighborhood and frequently walk past them cooking the meats, it’s the real deal. The employees are very friendly. I would highly recommend checking this place out if you’re in the fan!

Great spot, I grabbed to go and they put it together real quick. Got the brisket sandwich which tasted pretty good. The smack and cheese was great, I would definitely recommend that again and also get it. Got the fried okra which was also fantastic. People inside were really nice. Definitely would be back.

Ok. Here goes. I've been on the Best BBQ in Virginia Quest since 2012. So far this makes 76 BBQ joints I've been to since then. So i arrived to there location after 12. I did find a free parking spot on the street a little ways down. The Restaurant is in a old house converted into a restaurant as many restaurants in the area are. I walked in and was greeted from the staff. I made my way back of the restaurant and sat at the bar, which was wheelchair accessible for those that need that option. So I asked the man that was making drinks behind the counter if he was the owner. He said yes I am. He is the owner and pitmaster Jayme Campbell. He was very nice and polite and it was extremely busy. So briefly i explained to him my quest. He was interested but like I said he was very busy. So the inside is kind of like a cafeteria style ordering. They prepare most of the food up at the counter you can see them prepare the food and they have sneeze guards at the top of the area where they're fixing the food. So I placed my order with a young man at the register. Down at the end of the preparing area there's a cash register and that's where the bar begins. The restaurant has one TV back behind the bar, it appeared to be a full service bar. The seating was a assortment of bar stools in front of the bar. Higher bar stool tables and stools. And long tables and padded seating up against the wall and chairs on the opposite side of the tables. And tables up front near the storefront glass. It had plenty of natural light. The restaurant was clean. Bathrooms about average and cleanliness. They also have an option at your table where you can order from the QR code and they will bring it to your table. The other option is they take your name and you pay for it and they call your name when your food is ready. Okay so I ordered the 2 meat platter, two pork ribs and a quarter pound of pulled pork, and cornbread, green beans, kale, and they're smack and cheese. To wash it down I did get a big bottle of deer Park spring water. They also have a fountain for soft drinks. Which is Stubborn soda. The pulled pork was delicious, juicy and a hint of smoke flavor. I did add there N. C. Style sauce to it. It had a little kick to it. My favorite N.C. style sauce is vinegar and crushed red pepper. The pork ribs were juicy and tender and excellent flavor, and I added their dark barbecue sauce to them. The ribs are probably in the top five out of 76 BBQ joints I have visited since 2012. The green beans were good, seasoned with a little heat. The mac and cheese was great. With a little bit of heat and nice and cheesy! The collard greens were great using what appeared to be bacon for seasoning. The cornbread was not the traditional yellow cornbread. It was more like a pumpkin spice cake. Check out the menu they have a lot more options. All in all. Great BBQ and homemade sides desserts. My Q-Review numbers®️. 4.7 out of 5. Please check them out!

I really was hoping this was good bbq but not my cup of tea. We ordered the family dinner with Brisket sausage and ribs. The brisket was very fatty but the ribs were good the sausage was ok according to my husband and god sons. Our sides candied yams, creamed corn (horrible) and mac were absolutely not good with the exception of the mac and cheese. The sauce didn’t help at all.

Delicious, tender, and tasty barbecue. We enjoyed our dinner and look forward to our next visit. I can’t determine if the beef rib or pulled pork was my favorite. Everything was scrumptious and the staff was southern sweetness. ❤️
