If you have allergies but still want a “normal” dining experience, this is the place to go! This was by far the best gluten-free dining experience I’ve ever had. Nearly everything on the menu could be made gluten-free, and they took every precaution—different servers brought out allergen-safe dishes, and the plates were even a different shape so there was no confusion. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was outstanding! Parking wasn’t ideal since it’s on Cary Street, but that’s to be expected. There were nine of us, and we shared appetizers, ordered entrées and desserts, and our total was around $600. It was definitely on the pricier side, but completely worth it for the peace of mind and stress-free dining.

When we first arrived, the host was on the phone, which I understand, but there was no acknowledgment at all — not even a quick “I’ll be right with you.” We ended up standing there for about 5–8 minutes before he finally seated us. After that, it took over 10 minutes before anyone came to our table. I eventually had to flag someone down and ask if she was our waitress, and only then did she say she’d go get her. Our waitress was nice and the food itself was good, but the service was very slow. She barely checked on us throughout the meal. Considering it was a Thursday afternoon and the restaurant wasn’t busy, there really wasn’t any excuse for the long wait and lack of attentiveness. Not sure if I’ll be back…

This was our second time dining here, and we chose it for our 22nd anniversary dinner. We couldn’t have picked a better spot! From start to finish, the experience was outstanding.
Our waiter, Sam, went above and beyond. His attention to detail was incredible, and he made sure my wife’s dietary restrictions were fully accommodated without any stress. That kind of care made the night even more special.
We ordered the salmon and steak frites—both were absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. To top it off, we tried the gluten-free chocolate cake, and it was phenomenal—rich, decadent, and the perfect ending to our meal.
This was hands down the BEST service we’ve ever had at a restaurant. Huge kudos to the owner, chefs, and entire wait staff for creating such a warm, thoughtful, and memorable experience. This restaurant is truly a MUST-GO in Carytown, and we can’t wait to come back again!

Usually it is a little bit hard to get into the restaurant because it is so popular and so overwhelmingly good that it's hard to get a seat at times I was able to get a seat tonight and I was thrilled that I didn't have to wait!! The food was exceptional as always everything was on point from the she-crab soup to the Crab encrusted haddock and the Key Lime Pie was amazing!!! While all the servers are wonderfuI, I would like to bring attention to one waitress in particular!! Stella was my waitress tonight and she was exceptional as always!!! It was amazing because it had been quite a while since I had her as my waitress from a previous visit. She remembered me my name and everything, that is quite amazing. Stella is a wonderful waitress, she always goes above and beyond in making the guest feel welcome and comfortable. Her always happy and uplifting demeanor is most refreshing, she is a great asset to Burton's!!! Kudos to Stella!!! Makes me want to return frequently!!! Keep up the great work Burton's and Stella!! Excellent evening!!!

Excellent semi-private dining experience! We booked the semi-private room in the back of the Burtons Grill & Bar in Richmond, VA on 29 August 2025 for a wedding rehearsal dinner for 23 guests (could probably have held up to 25-28 guests). We picked the food options a month in advance which included a 4 course dinner. All the food was excellent (for real), the service was great, and all of our guests were impressed.
Our guests had the following choices for dinner from a special menu that Burton's provided:
Starter - General TSO Cauliflower Salads - Choice of house salad or soup du jour Mains - Choice of salmon, filet mignon, or roasted veggie bowl Deserts - Choice of triple layer chocolate caramel cake or Panna Cotta desert made with coconut milk for dairy free (most of us had both deserts!)
Burton's was very attentive to special dietary needs of our guests including dairy free and glutton free options as needed. They also labelled the menu as applicable. The filet mignon was cooked just the way each person order it, very nice!
Cost: To book the private room you must be willing to spend a minimum of $2,000 in food and drinks (not including tax and tips). We spent just over that for the 4 course dinner for 23 guests. Our overall bill including a nice tip (based on the excellent food and service) and tax was $3,100. We felt we definitely received what we paid for, an excellent dining experience for the wedding party in a restaurant with an up beat tempo and great food. It is now a great memory for us to enjoy.
We will definitely stop in at Burtons whenever we get the chance.
