Cafe Zata is a Manchester staple. It has just about everything you want in a coffee shop: food, decent coffee, plenty of seating, and good ambience. The review was almost perfect, but they had a couple areas for improvement. Their food could be improved- their burger was quite plain and their breakfast burrito was very greasy and fell apart in my hands. Also their wifi quality was terrible- nothing loaded for both me and my friends. We ended up using Hotspot instead.

Tried this place for the first time today after hearing about it and was completely disappointed. My breakfast bowl was like almost $13 and it came out with cheese harden and stuck to the bottom. The potatoes were hard as rocks, And it was practically inedible I had to pick at my food like a bird to even try to be able to eat anything and the only thing that wasn’t screwed up were are the eggs, definitely not worth the money save your money and go elsewhere

Good coffee, great food, friendly staff. Not much more you could ask for other than it would be nice if it was in a better location.

I miss living in Southside mostly because of being a bike ride away from Cafe Zata. Great place, my favorite order is a James River on sourdough with provolone (the fresh, homemade chips are amazing) with an iced chai latte. Woe is me, for now I live 20 minutes away (which honestly I try to not let stop me). Miss all the workers too, you all are amazing! They always brighten my day when I go.

I’ve been visiting here for years and it’s still my favorite sandwich shop in RVA, especially in the Manchester area. The owners are wonderful and the food is like no other. Always a fan!

Coffee is decent. Dont ever have them heat up your pastry here. They put it in a %&$# microwave and wrap it in foil after so its nice and SOGGY by the time you eat it. What is the opposite of a nice pastry? A soggy pastry!
What kind of idiot microwaves a pastry? I paid for coffee and pastry and I have, coffee and inedible soggy goop. I'm not exaggerating, it's like they poured water on the pastry before they nuked it.
I'm never going to the place again. That is just absurd. The person said warm up in oven. Not warm up in microwave. I can see why this place is never busy now. Please go out of business faster so someone with half a clue can take over the space.
I'll be taking my business to Gold Lion or even all the way to Panera with their terrible coffee. At least they dont give you wheat paste when you ask for a pastry.
In response to the reply from the owner;
I didn't come back because I had places to be. That is why I buy coffee and pastry to go. Because I had not time for proper breakfast and a long day. Put you on blast on 2 whole platforms because your mess of a pastry meant I was going without anything to eat until I get home around 7pm.
Dont worry I wont come back for you to make it right as you offered earlier. There really isn't anything appealing on your menu anyway.

Stopped in for coffee and a snack. Ended up with a delicious meal of a breakfast bowl with chorizo and GF mini waffles with bacon and hot honey. It was all DELICIOUS! My frosted mint iced mocha was good too. It did take quite a while for drinks & food, possibly because of a big group that was ahead of us. But the wait was totally worth it. We'll be back!
