Nice way to spend our anniversary on a Sunday evening. Free glass of champagne for anniversaries and half price bottles of wine on Sundays. What's not to love about that? Escargots was creatively prepared and moules were subtle and not over cooked. Chilean sea bass and salmon also delicious. The Bordeaux wine blend paired nicely with our meal. Yummy gooey lava cake finished the meal deliciously. Husband really enjoyed the meal and the vibe. Win win!!

Absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend and pricing reasonable. Loved all the sides- mashed, au gratin and glazed carrots. Sea bass and salmon were excellent !

Chez Max is surely on of the finest restaurants in the RVA area. The food is consistently good, the service is experienced and professional, the surroundings are very good, and the atmosphere is quiet - a rare attribute these days!

Wonderful and delicious meal is a genuine French atmosphere. The sole meuniere is a favorite and a hard find in Richmond.

I took my husband for his birthday. The service was outstanding, the food was great, and the atmosphere was awesome. I would definitely go back again.

In contrast to our expectations of a four-star experience, the overall experience was satisfactory, with most aspects falling within the average range or slightly exceeding it. A more appropriate rating would be 3.5 stars. The escargot lacked freshness and disappointed. The lamb chops were mediocre to slightly above average. The sides were satisfactory but lacked exceptional qualities. The dessert, however, was a true highlight, deserving of a four-star rating. While I had anticipated a high-end dining experience, the actual experience was slightly above average.

The food presentation was very good and the food excellent. The wait Staff was very professional and attentive but not overly so - just right.

The Dover sole was excellent, as were the mashed potatoes. I had the foie gras appetizer. It was delicious, but the piece of foie was undoubtedly the smallest that I have ever had anywhere in the world. I enjoyed the warm bread and the wine. Oliver was a very good server.

Oliver is a wonderful server Who enhances the pleasure of the meal. My favorite is always Foie Gras and the crab cakes were delicious As the potatoes au gratin and the key lime pie. My husband has enjoyed the crepes several times with the escargot for appetizer.

My wife and I had an amazing dinner here last night and we wholeheartedly recommend Chez Max for those looking for an outstanding, authentic French culinary experience within a very reasonable budget. If the restaurant reads this review, our only critique is that the bathrooms need tidying... visible bug traps behind the toilets in both bathrooms need to be addressed. But all in all, it didn't detract from our very enjoyable dinner -- with outstanding waitstaff, Oliver rocks -- and we will most certainly be back soon!

5 Stars. What else can I say. Oliver was delightful as was the food and ambience. My wife commented on how nice the atmosphere was. And the food can't be beat.
