My family rolled into town from out of state and wanted a sweet treat, so we hunted down this gelato shop—and it absolutely came through. We walked in and were immediately greeted and walked through the whole spread: gelato, coffee, and a handful of things living in the delicious space between.
The gelato case read like a map of familiar comfort and bold experiments. Sure, there were flavors you’d expect, but also ones you don’t usually see in gelato—soursop mango, saffron—the kind of offerings that make you pause for a second before committing. It’s clear they like to mix things up, but you can count on finding something classic alongside something daring.
We each picked something we’d never tried before, and every one of us hit the jackpot. Not a single regret, not a single trade request—just quietly focused spoon work.
The star of the show for me, though, was the frapogato: a scoop of gelato drowned in Greek-style whipped coffee. It was so good I almost forgot I was supposed to take a picture and had already plowed through a respectable amount before remembering.
If you’re in the area, stop in. Try something new. This place delivers unique flavors and genuinely great service without missing a beat

Stopped here after the farmer’s market and had the most amazing hot chocolate. Their handmade whipped cream was the best I’ve ever had. It’s thick, creamy, and not too sweet. Can’t wait to come back and try their gelato.

I have been going to Davvero Gelato since it was a pop-up cart at Libby Hill and various markets/restaurants around town, and I’ve only ever experienced excellent service and high quality gelato, hot chocolate, and sahlep (especilly sahlep, available during the colder months and one of what I consider to be the delights of life because of how delicious and rare it is to experience as authentically as Davvero provides it). Davvero is one of the greatest food establishments in Richmond (and the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the eastern seaboard, and the continental United States, and North American continent, and, dare I say, the world) and I love everyone who works there. TRY THE SAHLEP!

My teen son and I visited Davvero today to grab a treat before heading back home to Chesapeake. He wanted ice cream, but I always try to honor local, small businesses, and Davvero was the closest. What a wonderful find! Housed in what was the neighborhood barber, this place is so unique: the flavors are unique and delicious, the staff is remarkably friendly and knowledgable, and you can pick up several one-of-a-kind items from artisan olive oil to specialty, organic, clean tea bags! Stephanie served us our treats with warm conversation and genuine hospitality - she was glad we were there. She even offered to make me one of her favorite iced tea combos of mint and his is is teas… even though it has to be steeped first. She worked her magic, and somehow it was icy cold and inviting, not melting the ice as most freshly brewed hot-tea-turned-iced-tea would. I love that this is woman-owned and pinned right in the middle of the community it wants to serve. When we come back this way for more basketball and volleyball tournaments, I will make it a point to bring my husband and our other five children. Oh, and the price-point is right where it should be. I was expecting it to match the cost of what we pay in Chesapeake. Nope. It’s affordable and delicious.

Very cozy shop and great service, not to mention It’s the best gelato I’ve had in Richmond. The Vanilla Panetela Guava in particular, is probably my favorite gelato I’ve ever had, wonderful.
