I absolutely loved Early Bird Biscuit Company. The environment alone is worth the visit — delightful, warm, and full of character. The space is decorated with vintage early-1900s artwork, much of it featuring dogs, which gives the place a really charming, unexpected personality. There’s also an old National cash register and an apothecary-style glass cabinet for the bakery items that make it feel timeless and thoughtfully curated.
The food was excellent. I had a huge biscuit stacked with two pieces of sausage and egg, and everything tasted genuinely made from scratch — because it clearly is. The biscuit was substantial, flavorful, and perfectly balanced, not just big for the sake of being big.
What really ties it all together is the staff. Everyone was pleasant, happy, and clearly enjoying what they do. You can feel the joy they put into making the biscuits, and that energy carries straight through to the customer experience.
Early Bird Biscuit Company is one of those places that gets everything right: atmosphere, food, and people. A true Richmond gem.

We really wanted to like Early Bird Biscuit Co., but the experience just didn’t live up to the hype.
Once inside, it was slightly busy and there was nowhere to stand and wait for food without being in the way. The space is tiny, chaotic, and confusing for a first-time customer. We had no idea where to order, and when we hesitated, a lady with purple hair just rolled her eyes and offered no direction before walking away. Not exactly welcoming.
The prices were shocking. One sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit was $9. Pastries were also expensive. For $36 (with a tip that was prompted), we only got two biscuits and two small pastries. That’s a lot for what we received.
Unfortunately, the food didn’t justify the cost. The biscuit was huge (around 5x5), which is a plus, and it had a nice buttery flavor. But it was very dry. The sausage was the real issue. It had so much gristle that it was hard to eat. It honestly ruined the sandwich.
The pastries were overpriced and very average. The Ube White Chocolate crescent was extremely dry, like a sponge, with just one thin hard line of white chocolate inside. The Ube éclair wasn’t even an éclair. It looked like a small dense donut cut in half with some filling poured in the middle. The filling had a great flavor, but for the price, it was underwhelming.
Outside of the cashier, who was pleasant, the rest of the customer facing staff didn't seem friendly at all. They made us feel like an inconvenience just for being there.
The one real positive is that the biscuits are massive. If you enjoy them and can get past the gristly sausage, it’s definitely a full meal.
Overall, between the high prices, dry food, unfriendliness we will find another spot to find the best biscuit in town.

Great biscuits and coffee otherwise.
Damn fine biscuits here! Big portions, freshly prepared and just fantastic.
Two hands needed for their sandwich. I went bacon, egg and cheese and barely finished the thing. From the first bite to the last it was delicious.

It was our first time here and it didn’t disappoint. We had the ham biscuit, and bacon and pimento cheese biscuit. The biscuits are large, flaky and delicious. Each biscuit was very good. We also had two cappuccinos. Everything was delicious. The service prompt and friendly. The place is quaint and I wish it had more seating.

My favourite spot for a sweet treat in RVA. Their homemade jam is sooo good and I love their variety and constantly changing menu of baked treats

Biscuits were not as flavorful as I was hoping; the sandwich was impossible to eat because it was so crumbly that it fell apart when I picked it up. The eggs were overcooked, so my sandwich was just okay. My husband liked his biscuits and gravy a lot. The latte was pretty good. It was quick and a nice little spot to eat for $10ish a person. Overall nothing spectacular, but a sort of mid breakfast place if you like good coffee or okay eats.

It was good, only qualm it took a very very long time
I had the “Saturday Breakfast Sandwich.” While the biscuit was moist, the egg omelet on it was dry and flavorless. Coffee was bitter, even with milk and two Splendas.
However, the service was friendly and surprisingly fast. Vibe is fun old-City decor, with happy people. Maybe if you are a biscuit lover you might like this more than I did. It’s certainly worth a visit and support for a small business.

Great biscuits. Got the biscuits and gravy. Decent gravy. What stood out to me was how incredibly friendly the staff was. Had a pleasant exchange with one of the cooks as he grabbed ingredients. Everyone else shared that same positive vibe and attitude. Def will be back
