Family favorite. Usually take it to go. Love how accommodating they are for the kids.

Though it might be under new management. Rice was different last few times.

Great little sushi spot. They have a great lunch menu for a terrific price and the staff are extremely friendly. Don’t let the outside deter you from stopping by. It’s doesn’t look like much but the food and service are awesome.

This place is hands down the best sushi I've had in Virgina. We came in with a group of 12 and were taken care of quickly, efficiently, and kindly. The sushi is incredibly fresh and the lady helping us was so kind to keep everyone's orders separate and kept all checks organized. Will absolutely be visiting again whenever in the Richmond area! Go give them a visit!

Service and ambiance were good. The food, though, is the crowing star of Hiro Sushi. I had the Everything Poke Bowl. It was delicious and had a decent amount of fish and vegetables. My co-workers all ordered huge meals, and it all looked tasty.

ZERO STARS! They don’t explain if you don’t finish your food you have to pay an additional 10 dollars on top of the 35 dollars we ALREADY paid. 35 EACH, I might add. The only server in the place was MIA the whole time anyway. TERRIBLE SERVICE. Also manager didn’t even come apologize for our experience.

I came here with my 4 hungry boys for my sons birthday because he specifically wanted hibachi without the show. We ordered the chicken hibachi, salmon hibachi, steak hibachi, chicken katsu and fried rice. Everything was amazing. The miso soup was really good even though normally I’m not a fan. The fried rice was some of the best I’ve ever eaten. Everything that touched that wok or hibachi was excellent. The sauce they use for the vegetables and meat was exactly what I crave about hibachi. Our server was very responsive and attentive and she didn’t hover over us. Even with a slight language barrier, she was amazing. It looks like location and the age of this building might make it difficult for business so I hope that their reputation for delicious food and incredible service keeps them afloat. This will be a regular spot for me now. Thank you. Itadakimasu ?

This is the freshest, most beautifully presented and tastiest sushi that I have had in years! I will be going back. The restaurant was so gracious and it felt like we were the only people on the planet. Very lovely. Very tasty.

This is a message to the owner of Hiro Sushi on Midlothian Turnpike, a restaurant with the prices of a fine Japanese steakhouse and the quality of a gas station. Possibly deserving of a visit from Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares...because I just purchased $90 takeout meal for three that tasted like it came straight from the freezer aisle at Costco.

The food:
Surf & turf hibachi - the fried rice was decent but the rice was on the dry side and tasted like it may have been cooked many hours before.
The steak was unremarkable, and the shrimp were basically those bagged frozen shrimp you can get from the freezer aisle at any supermarket. They were dry, mealy, and bland. You can also tell it's not fresh shrimp because there is no shell around the base of the tail it to remove.
The hibachi was provided with a brown sauce which could only be described as incredibly pungent thickened Worcestershire (fish) sauce. I don't know what it was for but I can't think of anything that this concentrated stank could be good for.

8.95 for a handful of Ling Ling potstickers. I know it's them because I immediately recognized the dipping sauce. For this price I could have bought a bag of them myself and cooked them properly. Lazy.

8.95 for fried calamari that was obviously pre-frozen (like Sea-Pak) which was nuked harder than Hiroshima in the microwave. Offensively lazy.

Sushi: not much to say here. It was okay.

None of this meal was very enjoyable, especially for the price.

I am almost certain Hiro is struggling financially. They only had a few customers on a weekend around 7pm. They also seemed overstaffed for how slow the restaurant was. If the owner cut his staff down maybe he could afford to serve good food. The owner is not fooling anyone by using fancy looking takeout containers to hide the fact that he is cutting corners on quality.

I want to see Hiro redeemed because this used to be a good restaurant. Before COVID I had eaten there many times without issue. Some transparency in their operations could go a long way to fix the issues with Hiro's food.

Hiro Sushi needs to host a re-launch of the restaurant, with the theme of proving to Midlothian that they've changed to FRESH INGREDIENTS. FOR GOOD. Only a complete transition to fresh ingredients can justify their price point and save this restaurant or they're going to die a slow and painful death as they lose more and more customers.

Food tastes good enough.
Unfortunately there are details that add up to give a poor impression:
No one greeted me when I walked in although they looked at me.
There was a napkin on the floor and another strip of paper also on the floor that the server or staff couldn't be bothered to pick up.
Lysol can on one table, windex bottle at host table. Used wiping rags on sushi bar area for guests, colored pencils and jacket. Sushi bar areas are normally the center of attention in sushi restaurants (Hiro sushi)
Sloppy presentation of food, like it was just slopped into bowl without care.
I guess this place is tired today.
If you are going to open, then please do it right.
Thanks.
