This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. The food exceeded my expectations. My kids even loved it. We got to meet the owner who is also the Chef and he was very kind and made sure that we understood the menu. You could tell that he loves what he does. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We got the brown stew chicken and oxtail. It was ok. The brown stew tasted like regular American smothered chicken and full of tiny broken bones so I had to be careful eating it. The cabbage was so plain, no seasoning whatsoever. Oxtail and brown stew sauce was watery, not thick and flavorful like other Jamaican places I've been to.

About two weeks ago, I went into this lovely establishment and was blown away. I’m from Oklahoma and there is not a big Caribbean food market here . The Internet display Jamaican establishments of being rude. I had the opposite experience. Tara and Hew are not only good looking their personalities matched their looks they took very good care of me and my boyfriend . She let me sample. This drink called sorrow and I bought two glasses of it and I never tasted anything so good .I even got to meet the owner and he was nice friendly and told me that his goal is to keep the restaurant his family business. I had curry goat and my boyfriend had the jerk chicken and we will visit Virginia just to come to the establishment You have a great team and can’t wait to see you all again with my family who has never had Jamaican food

I feel like Richmond needs more cultural food like this. This restaurant reminded me of the Jamaican cookouts I used to go to when I was a kid. The jerked chicken was cooked to perfection, with enough sauce, spice and crispy skin. It tasted like it was made on a charcoal grill, however it is fairly spicy, so if you are not into that stay clear. The caramelized plantains were also enjoyable and perfect to cool down my mouth from the spices. My wife had the Ox tales and the flavor was amazing especially mixed with the rice and peas (red beans). I have nothing but good things to say about Hungry Eyes. Definitely my top Jamaican restaurant in Richmond right now. Overall: 9/10 Location: 10/10 Beautiful Short Pump. Easy to find parking Prices: 9/10 Good portions. Fair pricing Customer Service: 8/10 Food: 10/10
