I visited Jewfro on 10/25/25 for restaurant week. I must say, the food was BLAND and GROSS. Honestly, there were no African spices at all. I ordered the short rib and the Moroccan cigars and all of it was gross. No FLAVA at all. I won’t be going back. Visiting this place was a waste of money!!

The reviews for this place and the fusion concept are fantastic so my friend and I were flabbergasted to have such a bad experience. All around, it was just mishap after mishap.

First of all, the vibe is not what you would expect. The tables and chairs really need to be replaced — they are giving yard sale leftovers when the restaurant is trying to give upscale dining.

Second, we felt bad because the waiter was clearly slammed and no one was helping him. He was nice but did not do a good job because of how busy he was. After bringing us our first dishes, he didn’t give us any silverware or plates so we just sat there awkwardly. Our drinks were left at the bar for 15 minutes after being made and the bartender didn’t bother bringing them over even though she wasn’t doing anything other than cleaning. When our waiter finally came back he finally realized he hadn’t given us plates, silverware or napkins, so he brought us plates and spoons (???) and forgot the rest. So we continued to sit there awkwardly with our appetizers on the table. As we sat there we noticed how not a single table around us had been bussed and they were all covered in trash and dirty dishes which was very unappealing.

When we were finally able to ask our waiter for silverware and napkins so we could eat, the food was very disappointing. The pita chips that came with our hummus plate were hard as a brick and stale, and the carrot salad was half raw — some carrots were cooked nicely, but others were crunchy and had barely been cooked at all. The rest of our plates were just okay but definitely not worth the price we paid. Perhaps this was just a one-time bad experience but it was shocking given the good reviews.

Overall this was an extremely disappointing experience and I would not return or recommend.

We did the four-course menu. Very interesting, flavorful food if you like to try something different. I gave four stars as there would be minor changes I would make to the dishes e.g. the potato kugel is too thick with the beef tartare.

I would definitely eat there again or get catering from them.

We went to JewFro last night for the first time and were blown away. The food and service was amazing. We had the 4 course prix fixe and added the challah and an extra dessert. We will be back.

Food was not bad.. but in the end, it wasn’t 120.00 quality with 1 drink each. Honestly, never coming back. There were fees on the bill that were not disclosed when we ordered..

Honestly, for the price, this place was just mediocre at best. Drinks were subpar and very limited, lamb was all fat and all other food was just ok. Not worth the price in my opinion.

JewFro catered my daughter’s wedding and did a fantastic job. Many of our guests said it was the best wedding meal they’d ever had. Excellent service as well. The bride and groom were delighted!

Great food, middling drinks, poor service, unacceptable wait times.

We were really excited about the place, the menu for Richmond Restaurant Week looked great and the concept was awesome. We got in a couple minutes before our 6:45 reservation but it took them 10 minutes to get us sat. In that time multiple servers passed us by and saying someone would seat us shortly. This was weird because the restaurant was mostly empty at the time. From the time we got sat we waited another 10 or so minutes to have a server come take our order.

I ordered the orange blossom spritzer and my mom ordered the smoked honey old fashioned. My drink was pretty good but the old fashioned was terrible; it tasted like watered down bourbon and that’s it. But the biggest problem with the drinks is that it took 45 MINUTES to get them. Maybe they were short-staffed… but that’s just not okay. There was someone behind the bar the whole time but it was just really, really slow.

There seemed to be some strife betwixt the staff because from where we sat (close to the bar and kitchen), it sounded like people were getting pretty short with each other. Not quite yelling, but sort of curt and impolite. Not the best environment to wait for your food in!

And boy did we wait. All told, the meal was over 100 MINUTES LONG. It took nearly an hour for us to get our main course, with huge chunks of time between appetizers, mains, and dessert. It was painful.

I will say though: the appetizers were solid, the challah and accompanying spreads were delicious, and the mains and dessert were very, very good. We got the arugula fennel strawberry salad and the sambusas to start. Very tasty, not out of this world. But the mains were AWESOME. I got the rockfish and my mom ordered the scallops. Everything was perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, just totally packed with flavor. And the desserts did not disappoint. The cake with tahini buttercream was delightful. The salty-sweet-savory buttercream was unlike anything I’ve had before in a dessert. The milk cake was the perfect texture too. Would absolutely get both again!

It’s a shame the awesome food was so let down by the overall experience. After our meal I was left wondering if I’d come back. It was delicious but something has gotta change about the service/wait times. I don’t know, maybe they were just acutely short-staffed that day. But I wish JewFro’s team the best and I hope I could come back sometime and leave the much better review that their food deserves!

By far my favorite restaurant. An incredibly innovative menu with unique ingredients resulting in one of the best meals you’ll ever have.

I’ve made the 3 hour round trip from Charlottesville to Richmond on multiple occasions to eat here—that just tells you how good it is!

The service was so slow I almost rated a 2. That plus my cocktail tasted almost like water. But maybe it was a bad night. Read on for why I rated it higher. Short story – the food (described in the order we ate).
The spreads with the challah were delish. The fattoush was nice - salty croutons were the highlight. Sambusas were doughy, sadly - I had hoped for a crispy outside.
Both of our entrées - rockfish and scallops - were top notch! The seafood was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and we enjoyed the accompaniments.
OMG the desserts! We had the milk tart, which had a silky texture and was not too sweet. The chocolate cardamom cake with tahini buttercream was a revelation! It might’ve made up for my watery cocktail.

We had a delicious dinner at Jewfro! They easily accommodated my gluten free and dairy free dietary restrictions by modifying my dishes. The menu was prix fixe and well worth the cost. Can’t wait to go back!
