Truly a five star experience! From the homemade cornbread, decadent pimento cheese fried green tomatoes, to the fish stewed in sweet potato puree and finally the the toffee cake with homemade ice cream; this place is an absolute treat. Excellent service and food.

Super disappointed!!!!The reason why I'm giving it three stars it's because the service was terrific. The food was not so great everything was Bland, with no flavor. I had to return my food!I do not mind paying for food, but when it's like this and $$$$ not with it!Other than that, I would not come back to this place unless they changed the cook!

Embarking on a culinary journey at American Southern Cousin was an absolute delight. From the moment we stepped in, the service was top-notch, reflecting genuine Southern hospitality. The wine selection was impressive, offering the perfect complement to our meal. As for the food, the venison and duck dishes exceeded all expectations, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. American Southern Cousin has truly set a new standard for Southern cuisine, and I can't wait to return for another unforgettable dining experience.

It was our first time there. Had reservations and when we got there the hostess was on the phone for atleast 10 mins before she acknowledged us. Food was delicious. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because my $40 steak was overcooked. Mentioned it to our waiter n all I got was an I’m sorry didn’t even offer a new one. But overall we enjoyed it

We went for a late Valentine dinner, I'm not saying the food was bad by no means but for my taste buds and my wife's it was way way way to salty. Only thing that wasn't saturated with salt was the pan seared scallops appetizer. We also order the deviled eggs salty, my wife had the crab cake which was filled with lump meat at every bite, but that fried grit cake was just a block of salt. I myself had the 40day dry aged steak, now I'm not the biggest steak eater but I wanted to try dry aged, my steak was cooked too a perfect medium like I requested but those fingerling potatoes way to salty. Now as far as the dry aged steak, I let my wife try it since she loves steak and she said she could taste the difference so I gotta go with her judgment. Maybe it was an off night, maybe it was just our food who knows, but definitely will say check this place out for yourself.

Expensive dining experience. I ordered the ribeye special medium rare and it came out rare. The cut was also thin. Tasted good but I could not finish it, and got it to go. My wife had the Rockfish and it was a little salty, but good. The service was great. We spent over $200 with tip and went home feeling underwhelmed. At that price point I would expect everything to be well above par.

My husband and I celebrated our ten yr wedding anniversary dinner here and our entire experience was 10/10! We made reservations and were taken care of very well by Adam! He was on top of everything! I cannot wait to enjoy another meal here asap!

I feel mixed on my feelings about Julep's. We came last night for dinner before the symphony as a walk in. We were sat at a high table near the bar. The bar area has a great feel and appropriate lighting. Odd to remark on but the painting selections were mismatched and not in a good way. In no way did they support the theming of the restaurant, the only one that felt appropriate was the one above the coat check. The others looked like something you'd order off of vista prints. It took an extraordinary amount of time for our drink order to be taken and then quite awhile for the server to return to take our order and then also bring the drinks. The service picked up a bit after that. After the drinks were brought my husband's fingers slipped on the frosted glass and it tipped over before he even took his first sip. He grabbed it and immediately started getting it up with his napkin. The sever took quite awhile to assist and then never replaced my husband's napkin or even asked about his drink. The way that whole situation was handled was extremely off putting. Honestly, if we hadn't put in our dinner order I would have left simply on how that was handled. In terms of food: A singular corn muffin is given to all guests after placing your order. It was dry and was giving Jiffy box mix. As someone who knows how to make good Southern cornbread-this was a big no. She crab soup-this was lovely, and properly seasoned however the fried green tomato croutons could be left out as they tasted more like extra batter that had fried without the inclusion of tomatoes and did not enhance the soup in the least. Ribeye-this was ordered medium rare and was served rare. Seasoning was however on point and the potatoes were a nice addition. Butter fish-This was almost perfect but the center was not quite cooked, as I could not get my butter knife to cut through it. My husband had to use his steak knife to cut it. I separated off that area and did not eat that. The Swiss chard, morels and potatoes were a nice addition. The morels were probably rehydrated morels though. The seasoning was perfect. Overall I think the chef does a really great job on seasoning and plating however there were issues with appropriate cook times. The service was VERY off putting. We were checked on after taking our first bite but never again. There was not an opportunity to alert our server to the improper cooking, nor did we honestly have time to have it fixed. The disingenuous nature of our server gave a fake niceness and over use of "cheers". The handling of the drink spill again was dismal. I'm not sure if this normal or if perhaps we came on a night they were short handed which could have contributed to all of these issues. I'm not sure if we'd come back. The food has potential to be some of the best if cooked properly but the service was super off putting. And the "art"-not good.

My family and friends surprised me for my birthday. My first visit but not my last. First the atmosphere was classy but relaxed. The staff was very friendly. Started at the bar where the bartender made an amazing “ROSIES”. I had two! Our server was Dana, she made us feel like we were the only people in the restaurant. The food… OMG! The presentation and seasoning of the food was excellent. I had the crab cakes with real lump crabmeat! Thanks to the staff for a fantastic birthday!

We came here for my Mom’s birthday and we were so pleased! We arrived a little early to our reservation so we sat at the bar and had artisanal drinks. I tried both the Jack Rabbit Slim and the Snakehole. Both fantastic! Once our table was ready, Dana promptly sat us and provided attentive, kind, and efficient service. The deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes were a hit at our table. And once those entrees came out, the entire table was silent, with the occasional “mmmm” and happy dance breaking the frenzy. Absolutely splendid dinning experience and will be returning!

We've wanted to try Julep's for some time, but never quite got around to it until recently. Unfortunately, it was ultimately a very disappointing experience. In spite of the lovely location and a very polite (and repeatedly apologetic) server, our dinner was consistently below expectations. My wife wanted to substitute the fish between two dishes so she could enjoy the preparation she wanted with a low mercury fish, and the server informed us the chef will not make any substitutions. After pressing him on the issue he went back to ask the chef and returned to inform us the chef was standing firm and would not make a substitution. At that point, we would have left if we didn't have tickets for a show after dinner. In hindsight, we should have found something else for dinner. The fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits were both recommended and the server stated they are both at the top of the menu because that's what they're known for. Both were underwhelming. Not bad, but not worth the recommendation or prime placement on the menu. I ordered a steak medium rare. It came out medium well. The server immediately agreed it was overcooked and took it back to have another made. They eventually brought out an appetizer on the house for me to snack on while I waited. My wife was done with her entree by the time my second steak came out. Those are just a few of the issues we had. The fact is that there's just too many better places to dine in Richmond. It's unlikely we'll be back.

Y'all, this is some Excellent food with top notch service! The welcoming atmosphere is perfect for a night out and beautiful inside. Try the bananas foster for some great entertainment and dessert! If you're lucky enough to get Tony, you'll enjoy yourselves even more, he's the best! Salute!!Parking: On the backside is a nice sized paid parking lot. Easy two minutes to the door if that.
