Everything is finally crafted in a perfectly balanced eclectic mannor, from the food, cocktails, and even the decor. It is a great cozy intimate location meant for special occasions.

Our server, Susan W, was simply out-of-this-world amazing! Her knowledge of the menu, her perfect service and friendliness were at least 10 out of 10. First time there, went with a friend who knew the place, and it did not disappoint. From the comfortable vibe to creative, perfectly-created and presented dishes, L'Opossum was an experience to remember. Yes, the prices may seem a bit high if you are only looking at the 2-dimensional menu online, but not one millisecond of regret in choosing this gem in Richmond. It has a fourth dimension that cannot be described. You will love it, trust me!

What a spectacular find! We are out of towners and made a reservation about a week in advance so it was easy to get a spot and we were seated right away. The food is next level and so are the drinks. We shared a tomato and steak tartare for appetizer that was 10/10. I had the Beef Swellington and my wife had the lamb with dumplings. Both were 11/10. Dessert was unbelievable too. The only 'but' is that, being new to the area, the neighborhood felt a bit sketchy and we had to park a couple of blocks away. It's ignorant bias, I'm sure, and we felt perfectly safe. It's just that it did not feel like it was on a super curated touristy area. We'll be back for sure. Many times.

Had an incredible experience here. Lived in Richmond my whole life and had never been - truthfully, I put this place on a pedestal and was weary it wouldn't be able to meet my expectations. Knocked it out of the park. Food was incredible, drinks were perfect, and service was attentive, kind, but not pushy. No notes.

Looking forward to coming back soon.

Well, here we go again! L’Opossum does not fail to deliver. Another anniversary but a month late. First, a complimentary aperitif of sparkling rose followed by the cocktails… a Smokey Whisky Sour and a Throwing Shade…yum. Starters of Chesapeake Bay Oysters Rock and Carpaccio of Venison…outstanding. Entrees of Halibut and Mussels+ and the Lamb with baby dumplings and broccoli. Wow. Our server Devin was absolutely top shelf and we came to know Kendall, the manager. All in all, always a welcoming experience, great cuisine and awesome service. Cannot wait to get back. Bravo L’Opossum.

Really great experience. I've been a few times and this was my favorite. I'm vegetarian so eating fancy French food always poses a challenge, but their current veggie selections were amazing. I'm always a little let down that there aren't more vegetarian options for me on the menu, but what was available was really amazing and unique and thoughtful so what more could I want? Service was so amazing and considerate and attentive. Ambience is always perfect. Seriously a perfect dinner, perfect experience. Very pricey! But maybe I'm just stuck in the past. I guess to get service and food at this level, you just have to pay a lot ;)

Dining at L'Opossum is always an extraordinary experience. We are major fans and regularly patronize this one-of-a-kind restaurant, whenever we can. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Everything we have ever ordered has been so well-prepared and served as if we were royalty.

People highly recommended L’Opossum as one of the best, if not the best, restaurant in Richmond. I guess I was lucky to get a reservation from one day to the other at the bar, since I understand you usually have to book far in advance. First impression: great vibes, extravagant decor, friendly staff, good music.
Ordered a cocktail, appetizer, glass of wine, entree and dessert. Meal was definitely GREAT, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think it was worth the $150 I paid (not including tip). I had a great time, but feel some disonance… maybe you’re paying for the name and the vibe, but I feel a $58 file mignon needs to blow your mind and not feel like an expensive beef over veggies. I believe I will come back and try other things in the menu, but my expectations will be a bit more moderate. Would recommend as a special date night, not a culinary experience.

The food was absolutely amazing. This isn’t the level of restaurant I usually eat at, but it was super chill and down to earth and didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. The staff were all super helpful and knowledgeable about the menu, and the wordplay in the menu items is top-notch. I also appreciated the copious Burt Reynolds decor.

I decided to go to dinner there and fast realized that I found a gem. I had the veal carpaccio, steak tartare and crab cakes. The presentation of every dish was amazing! They tasted even better. I would say the tartare was the star. I sat at the bar, and the bartender Austin was knowledgeable fun and really knew what he was doing. I had two craft drinks that were delicious. He made great conversation and helped me make great choices. The vibe is eclectic and somewhat bohemian. I really enjoyed it and would put it on your must visit list.

⭐☆☆☆☆ Very Disappointed After Years of Loyalty

We’ve been going to L’Opossum for years and have always loved it — the food, the atmosphere, and especially the clown paintings in the bathroom have made it one of our favorite spots to recommend to friends. Unfortunately, our most recent experience left us very disappointed.

I made a reservation for my husband’s 60th birthday, but that afternoon our daughter, who attends college nearby, had a sudden medical emergency. We both left work to be with her, and since we weren’t sure if we’d make it to dinner on time, I called L’Opossum to see if we could move our reservation later. The host kindly explained that nothing was available until 9 p.m., which was too late for us, so I politely canceled. The staff member was understanding and expressed concern, which I appreciated.

Later that evening, when our daughter began to feel better, I called back to see if our original reservation might still be available. The same host told me it had already been given away — understandable on a busy night — so we made other plans.

The next morning, however, my husband received a notification from our bank showing a $100 charge from L’Opossum. We had never been informed of a cancellation fee during either phone call. When I called to discuss it, the manager refused to speak with me directly and instead had the host relay that there would be no exceptions to the policy. What makes this especially frustrating is that they had already filled our table, meaning the restaurant did not actually lose any revenue from our cancellation.

Even if this is their standard policy, I would have expected a little goodwill or flexibility given the emergency situation — especially from a restaurant we’ve supported for years. In a smaller city and a difficult economy, that lack of understanding was disheartening. Sadly, despite how much we’ve always loved L’Opossum, we won’t be returning—EVER.
