Ordered delivery from here while out of town, which arrived without ordered condiments, plasticware, and drinks. Had to scramble with our hotel for silverware and re-buy drinks elsewhere since ours went missing. Restaurant is now closed by the time we got our order and the platform they use for deliveries doesn't allow any kind of disputes. The food that did arrive was decent, but missing the drinks and sauces is ridiculous.

The food is average, and VERY expensive. My husband got a chicken dinner and some pie and it was $45.
The woman’s bathroom is atrocious! It doesn’t make sense to charge that much for food and not keep your space looking nice. The bathroom had holes in the walls paint missing. It was just disgusting.

This is real comfort food. The fried chicken came out hot and crispy, greens tasted like they’d been cooking all morning. Dining room is cozy and a little loud but in a good way. Feels like you’re eating at someone’s house who really knows how to cook.

Felt like mamas kitchen for sure. It was our first time dining there.
My favorite dishes so far are the Mac n cheese-chefs kiss! Yams, fried chicken, French fries, Catfish, peach cobbler (just need more peach juice please)
We will be back!

Great soul food. Reservations are recommended on busy days. The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned. Large portion sizes to share.

This was my first time here coming from Petersburg, Va. my husband went here before so he brought me here to try it out. The food was good but the service sucks, one lady who was short just told us to go to that table just by pointing to it by the wall and the other lady was heavy set had a red shirt and dark blue jeans, I don’t remember her name, I don’t know if she told her name, just ask for our drinks and then our order, I order the grilled pork chops but I got fried with Mac cheese & green beans. my husband which was his birthday was already tipsy but that didn’t matter what was going on with him and he ordered the pork chops fried but got the bbq ribs instead and she didn’t repeat the order back just said I got it. Then she never came back to do a courteous check, I ran out of Pepsi then she brought me back iced tea. In the meantime she was sitting at the bar with another lady on their phone . The young lady with glasses was very polite to her customers as I was listening she ask did they need lemon with their water and brought it back and their food came out and she made sure if they need anything else. Then she came back to see if everything was okay with their order. I’ll make sure to ask for her next time. If you don’t want to work with your customers don’t come to work just stay home and be on your phone.

I should have known better when the person I was with earlier in the day declined to eat there with me....she is from the area and doesn't care for their food.
I was excited to try it so went anyway.
Food was mediocre at best....1 out of 10.
Some of my food was WAY TOO SALTY!!
Fried chicken was undercooked, and only crispy in some places. Hairs on the chicken (not human hair...chicken hairs). 😫😫😫 Also, the bone inside the chicken wing was cracked open with the marrow exposed. Yuck! 🤢🤢🤢
Cornbread tasted good but was crumbly.
Collards had a good texture but weird flavor. I honestly can't put my finger on it. They almost tasted like they were frozen and reheated or were cooked in a pan that something had burned in. 🤢🤢🤢
Service: poor. Staff seemed to have the potential to be friendly not did not meet the mark. I did not experience good customer service. Staff rude. I did not sense that they appreciated my business at all.
I brought my food, home with no intention of eating it. I just took some photos and threw it in the trash. 🗑🗑🗑
I willl NOT be back. I can GUARANTEE that.
Don't waste your time or money.
I have been to Southern Kitchen 5 times since September. So far it has been AMAZING! Go there instead.

First time ever having soul food, and it was some of the best food I've ever had. Our waitress was sweet and gave us amazing recommendations. The chicken was hot and juicy and the lemon pound cake was the best pound cake I've ever had.

You’ve nourished my family in our gloomiest day, sprouted joy in our hearts, and fostered connection with our friend. Taught us what the soul in soul food means.

My first experience here was over the top. The food was so good, I had fried pork chops with cabbage and potatoe salad. My wife had fried catfish with yams and collard greens. We shared warm peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Our server Akira made our evening quite enjoyable along with the manager Crystal. I highly recommend dining at Mama J's kitchen when in the Richmond area.

My absolute favorite restaurant in the world. Great food, excellent service, good prices. The take home from the adjoining market was also amazing.
