I wanted to share my experience with mean bird because I had their food last night.

Got a 3 piece and mac and cheese from here the other day. Mac and cheese was excellent which is the only reason they get three stars. the chicken itself was INCREDIBLY greasy indicating they probably fry it at too low of a temp. Also it had an off flavor like the oil was in desperate need of changing. the breading flaked off far too easy and had little flavor despite opting for "spicy". meh.

The sides & sauces were good, but the chicken... not so much. I feel like it's gotta depend on when you order or something because ours tasted like the oil had been used way too many times before cooking our chicken. Couldn't take more than a few bites of it.. sad for how expensive it was.

First vegan experience and now I want to go around and be the stereotypical vegan. I want to yell from the mountain that I AM VEGAN! But I'm not vegan and I wanted to see what the buzz was all about. The Hot Chick vegan sandwich was all but chicken. Ok, jokes aside, this place is insanely good. If had more thumbs I would give them those as well. I would recommend this to anyone.

Went to mean bird today and i did not regret it. I got the vegan chicken sandwich, which had such good flavor AND texture which is hard to capture. Also got the vegan collard greens and they were so well seasoned and delicious! Definitely will be back!

Simply not good fried chicken. Tastes like shake n' bake.

I was really surprised by all the negative reviews... I thought for sure this place would have mostly 5 stars. Ive never had anything Vegan here so cant rate anything on that. But first off, the chicken sandwiches are HUGE (literally the biggest sandwich I've ever seen in my life). They are made fresh when you order it, starting with a raw chicken cutlet, it's seasoned, breaded, and deep fried... or something like that, but you get my point. The breading doesn't stick as well to the chicken as say, the frozen chicken sandwiches that you get from other restaurants, but I think that's because they use pretty pure ingredients here and nothing is ever frozen. The guys that work there can tell you every ingredient in anything on their menu, which I think is awesome. My dad came into town and I got him one of these chicken sandwiches and he calls me and says "I'm having chicken sandwich withdraw, I think it's time for me to come back to Richmond". I think this place is worth a try. It's a little pricy... but you get a lot of food! I do have some negatives: 1. The store is not approachable or welcoming. The door is heavy as hell... and seems like it's all crooked and off it's hinges. I think this shop could use a makeover... maybe with some TABLES and maybe something like connect 4 at the tables so there is something to do why you wait for your food. 2. There is pretty much nothing for someone with a gluten allergy to eat here, except the sticky wings (which are great btw) but there should still be more options. Like grilled chicken nuggets? Idk...

Incredible vegan chicken, very cool staff. Their food all tastes incredible, I've never been so amazed by vegan fried chicken in my life. The atmosphere is very cool and very fun, top notch.

The veggie bird is delicious!!! So glad it wasn't fake meat (that stuff isn't good for you). Not many vegan sides but the french fries were okay. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely wonderful food and great service. How have I lived this long without crispy brussel sprouts?? Love this food truck and catering company.

Umm...the idea of this restaurant is great. Made to order meals, great portion sizes. My boyfriend and I ordered a regular chicken meal and a veggie Baby Bird. However, the execution is where Mean Bird dropped the ball. The chicken was fresh but painfully under seasoned. The fries were the best part and even that was just okay. The veggie patty was very dense, and tasted heavily of sage. I think it could've served Mean Bird well to have a more neutral tasting patty so the flavors wouldn't clash so much. I guess seasoning would be the biggest issue here. Also, a public restroom and more seating would be nice.

chicken was cooked well a little dry. the fries are completely over seasoned like the top fell off of the seasoning. the chicken isn't seasoned well had a very unappealing flavor like old oil. it left a disgusting after taste in my mouth. i ordered a 3 piece but only ate 1 bc i really couldn't even get the other two down. tried hot sauce but it wasnt worth getting sick over. really disappointing because i was so looking forward to this place :(

I went here when it first opened and the veggie sandwich was pretty good. Today, both sandwiches we got (both classic veggie) tasted like cleaning supplies (like they didn't rinse a pan off fully or something...or maybe it's just a gross sandwich). One patty was so big it completely fell apart as soon as it was picked up. The Mac n cheese tasted watered down. I couldn't believe that description when my boyfriend said it but I tried it and it actually tasted watered down. Fries and hush puppies were good though so 2 stars.
