I love that they host one of RVA’s free fridges!

The cornbread was good. I love the greens and Mac & cheese was delicious. Catfish could have been a bit more crispy but very flavorful. The service was amazing and for the price of food it definitely matched the value.

Visiting RVA, we wanted some authentic soul food--not fine dining. Fried chicken livers were part of the menu, so this was it.

I didn't get their names but we were met by such friendliness and kindness. When leaving, I had to ask for a selfie.

The only full entree that we ordered was the meatloaf which was delicious and generous. Added wings along with an extra side of yams and, of course, chicken livers. Cornbread in each box an added plus. All super yummy and will feed us another day.

12 years in the kitchen here, my honest opinion:

My coworker said girlie was the best fried chicken in rva and I'm inclined to agree.
I've had fried chicken from all over the states and It's just real good. Seasoning is good, juicy and tender, but crispy on the outside, great color, they make it all to order too so it's always fresh.

I also got the shrimp po boy which was very decent. Needs that cornmeal breading though and more pickle juice in the roumelade, but great cook on the shrimp. Big juicy breaded shrimp.

They use penne for the Mac n cheese, which is actually better than the macarini imo. Nice bake on it so you get that bubbly cheese crust with the flavor.

Potato salad needs a rework though.

Will come back to see about those ribs.

Support these guys they know what's up.

Omg! Do not go there! Awful restaurant that blasts home cooked food like they are doing it up. Then their own homemade sauces which are an awful concoction! Fish overly breaded, shrimp over cooked just a poor waste of money and your time. DO NOT DO IT!! Then cashier talking about adding an additional tip from the 8% that’s already taken out. Then if you use your card oh the guy doesn’t give you the opportunity to sign receipt which is your right to do so! I’m holding on to this receipt and have my lawyer on speed dial in case something fishy arrives. PURE NASTY!! Whoever eats here do not know of real home cooking. If you want some good food goggle Jackie They are the best other than Ma Ma J’s. Jackie’s is fire!!! Sooh pissed and queezy in the stomach. Yuk??
