One Way is one of my favorite places to get ice cream in the RVA!
This store is odd in that when you first walk in, you’ll be greeted to an entirely empty store with no one at the counter. The people who run this creamery run the One Way market across the street simultaneously and usually stay over there. Once they see you walk into the ice cream store, they’ll come over. I’ve seen a lot of people come into One Way Cream & Goodies and when they don’t see anyone or it takes a second for a worker to walk over, they’ll leave without getting anything which is a shame because the ice cream and milk shakes there are amazing. If you choose to do their make your own milkshake / ice cream option (I forget the exact term they use), you start with either vanilla or chocolate ice cream, then you get to add your choice of cereal, a “goodie” (a topping / baked good treat), a drizzle, and even your choice flavor of whipped cream. They also sell ice cream by the scoop with a couple of flavors to choose from, and they have signature milkshakes (such as Death By Chocolate) for those who can’t choose on all 5 aspects of a BYO shake.

I came by twice and the store not open why say your open at 1pm just to not be open it’s 2 and yall still not open !
Not sure if this is true, but it feels like this place is pretty new/up and coming. I love the concept of cereal mix-in with ice cream. I’ve been on the hunt for a place like this b/c I often visited a similar shoppe in my old town. It did not disappoint! So many cereal options. If you like THICK SHAKES this place is for you. Brought a shake home for my sister about 25 mins away and it barely softened.

Ok so I’ve read a few of the reviews and I feel like the lower star ones literally are people who have no clue about the guy, his business or what he stands for. One said that they had to wait for him to come across the street from another building….PLEASE UNDERSTAND that he not only owns the Goodies and Cream store but he also owns the One Way Market directly across from the Dessert shop. And he barely has help so just use your thinking skills to realize how hard it is to run one of the most known Black owned businesses in Richmond, while running and being the ice cream artist in a dessert store. Another one said something about the smell of weed, ma’am I’ve live in that area for years…the whole dang block always smells like it, and it’s LEGAL IN VA. Overall in my opinion if you focus on being a regular customer and have a genuine convo with the guy, he’s actually very funny and cool and will remember your orders easily like a professional. My fav is the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Milkshake with Cheesecake pieces, almond milk, OG Whip Cream with Strawberry drizzle!!!

Owner is rude and nasty.. went inside for about 30 mins no one was there. Went to order at mama J. Was coming back to sit at the purple table to eat our food and get ice cream. He said we couldn’t sit there even after I explain we were still getting ice cream. He does not need a business. He seem annoyed like he didn’t even want to serve us

Went inside about a half hour ago. There was not one person in inside. Walked around the building and didn’t see anyone. A lady loading her car in the street said “ he will be right there”. So we waited another couple of minutes.
When the young man came inside he acted like he was annoyed by us interrupting his day by us stopping in to make an over priced purchase.
I paid for a waffle bowl and got a cup that was a single scoop of ice cream with about a table spoon of whipped cream with some chocolate syrup drizzled on it for almost 13 dollars while my partner got an 8 dollar cup of shaved ice.
I would have made the man fix my ice cream as I noticed he forgot it was supposed to be a waffle bowl immediately, but they prepare your ice cream in the back room and I wasn’t sure if I even trusted what I already got to eat in the first place based on his attitude. So, I kept it.
There is a reason why this shop is empty while mama j’s next door has a line of people who can’t wait to eat there.
I don’t know how this place survives with the rent in this area. Maybe it’s just a tax front for something else. It won’t be there long if not. 23 bucks for a scoop of ice cream and a flavored ice is nuts to begin with but to treat people who do pay it like they are interrupting your time outside smoking or something is not acceptable for any business.

The owner has an attitude problem and the ice cream not too worth it. It’s tastes okay but pretty boring.

This was a very interesting experience. As a cereal lover, The ice cream was delicious! A little pricey though, but generous size. Strong smell of w33d though as soon as we walked though the door, the man taking our order was pretty rude, and we had to wait for him to come back inside from being in a building across the street. It’s….unique

We were sitting there waiting to order with my mother and her friends, senior citizens, they were told to get off bench , I was disappointed from a business not allowing people to hang out and order ice cream

Stopped by this location on a whim. Parking during busy times can be tricky but there is street parking and there is a paid lot to the left behind the store.
There are a few stools to eat in if you want. The overall vibe is that you pick an ice cream flavor, topping, drizzle, and they have a lot of cereal toppings. This is the one unique piece is that they have a vast array of cereals to choose from, some I had never seen before.
Service was decent.
Prices were a little steep for a milkshake at $10 for an ~8 ounce or so size.

Definitely check this place out! Price is completely reasonable, especially compared to pretty much everywhere else. Staff was friendly and helpful but gave us room to breathe and figure out the menu. Some people might prefer more active service, but he’s only a question away! My milkshake was great and hearty, not as complex as it may come off (but you can certainly make complex treats if you want!) Definitely give this place a shot, there’s much more to enjoy here than the neighborhood might give off!
