We had a great evening at Penny's Wine Shop - we enjoyed the full flight of featured wines by the glass and paired them with several of the shared plate selections. Oyster mushrooms conserva and potato dauphinoise were our top favorites with the Bolet Cava and Patience Blanc white blend, but everything we tasted was delicious – oh that Basque cheesecake! This is definitely on the list to return to as their menu and wines change on a regular basis so always something new to try! We posted more love & pics @richpairings

This is a cute, comfortable spot. Not so noisy that you have to scream to have a conversation like many places. The food was interesting and had items I had never heard of (and I'm old). I had a glass of Italian wine made from a grape I'd never heard of that was very nice. Just all around provocative in the best possible way. Highly recommend and will be back!

Can't say enough good things about Penny's! Had such a great experience with my mom while visiting Richmond for the first time. The food is incredible (kabocha squash soup was AMAZING!), the wine is delicious and thoughtfully curated, it has the coziest vibe with fun, eclectic, and historic decor, and the owner Lance is super personable and made the experience that much more enjoyable. He's also an actor which was cool to learn about.

This place is the best! We were initially attracted to this spot because we are natural-wine-curious but have been very pleasantly surprised with the cozy vibes, warm service and seriously tasty food. The last meal we had here was the most delicious food we've had in RVA in a few years.
This wine bar has a relaxed and casual/cosy atmosphere and a small beautifully curated selection of wonderful food and drink. I have a fantastic time every time I go there! The staff are wonderful, patient, and kind too. I recommend making a reservation as it is always busy busy busy.

I never leave reviews but I recently had a fantastic customer service experience at Penny’s where I brought 2 women in their 60s and grandma in her 90s for dinner on a Friday night. I called last minute to change our party size and to request a low-top table and the owner Lance was extremely accommodating and understanding of our party’s needs. Our server was so kind and answered all of my mom’s questions about the origins of the restaurant name, the building/neighborhood, what used to be in the space etc. Can’t say enough good things about the food but I felt compelled to rave about the overall experience. Will be back again and again!

Ditto what it seems everyone else is saying. Penny’s is a gem. We had an incredible dinner of mostly vegetarian small plates, and everything was interesting and delicious. We had a Bulgarian wine that we never would have picked on our own, and it was perfect. Wonderful experience all around.

I’ve been to Pennys twice in the past few months and both times have been spectacular. Everyone on their team is so knowledgeable and they give great recommendations for both food and drinks. They have multiple non-alcoholic options - even though wine shop is in the name, drinking is not required to enjoy their delicious food!My favorite two dishes are their short rib with sweet potato grits and tamarind jus, and the potato dauphinois. Order it early because once they’re out, they’re out!The decor in this restaurant is historic, educational and unique. I love being in the space - there is always something new and interesting to look at!Highly recommend.
