When in Richmond you drink Richmond hazmat! Checked out Reservoir Distillery and got to try their Hazmat Wheat, Hazmat Bourbon, and Hazmat Rye they had on offer.
Hazmat Wheat - 141.8 proof, lots of licorice, vanilla, slight creme brûlée and grain on the nose, palate had some brown sugar notes and a very nice finish.
Hazmat Bourbon - 142 proof, this was a blend of their 10 year 100% corn and 5 year 100% wheat and it was incredible. Caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, some toffee, and sweet oak. Palate just about matched it with some additional toffee notes to it. I love this and I wish they had some left to purchase.
Hazmat Rye - 144.2 proof normally I’m not a rye guy but this was nice, heavy baking spices, burnt brown sugar, earthy notes to the end with some rye spice, the palate was about the same but the finish left a lingering vanilla note that was really nice.
I really suggest checking this place out if you get a chance to go!!
Also shout out to our bartender Tyla they were absolutely incredible and did an awesome job taking care of us!
Must see if you're visiting Richmond. A great gem if you're ever visiting the Scott's Addition neighborhood. Perfect for groups
Hit this place with some friends while in town. We really enjoyed the founding flight. They also have cocktails available and a daily special. It is worth the time to check it out when in the neighborhood.
Leigh St. Enough said.
Stopped in for a tasting while visiting from Charlotte. 100% Wheat, Corn and Rye flight. Hunter and Scott bourbon and Whiskey. Dara was super friendly, smart, beautiful and so so informative and the tasting was exactly what I needed.
Absolutely love the set up, it’s dark intimate and a nice vibes. I don’t know if she was the owner but she really know her product very well. As she explained things it drew me closer in. It was two staff members visible. At the time about 4 others customers. Let’s just say all I had was the tasting, never reallly had a chance to explore a cocktail because 23 minutes NO ONE came over. Was disappointed with the overall service. My prestive is they have precedence in who they serve and the “attention” they give to some versus others. Just MY thoughts. I’ll give it a try again. We all have lapse in service sometimes.
I’m not a whiskey drinker but wanted to try something new. This place is amazing! Great, fun, knowledgeable staff and great whiskey. Will definitely be back!
A sipper's delight with nifty flight options and friendly and knowledgeable staff. Their core products each use 100% of the chosen grain, wheat, corn, and rye, offering a pure expression where most whiskies use a blended mash bill. 375s and 750s to go.
Love local distilleries like this. Great way to understand their process and add something unique to the bourbon collection!
Enjoyed a tasting with my wife this afternoon. Our hostess was great, very knowledgeable and engaging. We each got a different flight then shared them. Will definitely be back.

Visited in November, cool hole in wall distillery. Enjoyed their tasting and bourbon and would be back if ever in Richmond again
I went to Reservoir Distillery for first time today. Very cozy tasting room. I really enjoyed the Roseneath drink!
First time visiting Reservoir Distillery and was not disappointed! We took advantage of the Founding Flight, which includes tastes of the wheat, bourbon, and rye whiskeys. We also tried the Holland's Flight, which includes whiskeys aged in stout, milk stout, and rum barrels. The tasting room is cozy and clean and the folks working in the tasting room are friendly, knowledgeable, and very welcoming.
Way too expensive
I know I'm giving out way too many of these five star reviews here lately. This distillery is great if you like 'traditional' aged whiskeys such as wheat based, bourbon and rye. They have variations of each with different barrell aging, strengths, etc. They do a great choice of sample flights and cocktails so you definitely want to stop by here if you like these type liquors. Also be aware there's no food here but they do have a great little area to relax and have your cocktail.
