Roofs Natural Kitchen has become our absolute go-to spot, and for good reason. Every visit is consistently great, and we always end up ordering the El Jefe with the works—it never disappoints.
The portions are generous, packed with fresh ingredients, and always full of flavor. You can tell they take pride in what they serve.
The place itself is clean, comfortable, and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely seems to care about their customers.
It’s the kind of spot where you feel good walking in and even better walking out, satisfied and already thinking about your next visit. Roofs Natural Kitchen is easily one of our favorites, and we recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, delicious meal.

Great food! I wish there was one in Goochland, closer to me. The El'Jefe with the works is the best!

The food was amazing! The vibe was amazing! The customer service was amazing! You’re lucky if you get Bilal to make your bowl!

The employees are always pleasant at this location. However, the quality of the food has become subpar. During a recent visit, I questioned if the chicken preparation had changed since it was dry the last few times I’d placed orders. Also, the portion size has decreased. I was told by an employee that “corporate” had advised them to give less chicken (no more than 8 pieces) on the bowl…? For a $15 bowl, I would like to expect that the protein portion of the bowl be adequate.
Also, during my last few delivery orders I’ve noticed that this restaurant does not secure the packaging with anti-tampering safeguards. It wouldn’t cost much to simply secure the bowl lids with stickers or even the top of the bag with a sticker so that the customer feels assured the food has not been tampered with once leaving the restaurant. I am requesting “corporate” take notice to this recommendation.

The bowl I had was very good. Enjoyed every bite!
However, a very, very good deep cleaning is needed of the bathrooms, the main dining area and the kitchen. It’s really bad.
Once you do a very deep clean if you keep it up, it’s going to be great, but honestly one of the dirtiest restaurants I’ve been in. This is the one on Broad Street in Richmond VA.
Love this place! The Mayweather is my favorite as I'm a kale lover!

Nice place. A little overpriced considering that's it mostly lettuce and grain.

I generally really enjoy roots, but have been disappointed with this location. Slow service and mistakes with the bowls.
Most recent balboa bowl barely had chicken when its supposed to have 1.5x the regular.

I am one of roots biggest fans but we just had some of the rudest and most disappointing customer service. My sister has celiac disease (a severe gluten allergy) and always asks if the team can change their gloves and use fresh tubs of prepped ingredients that are near gluten items like pita chips. Despite being the only customers in the store - they complained about how much work it was to do this and they were shocked to hear that she had been accommodated at roots before stating that they “would not do it again” This is not the service we have come to expect at Roots, a place that quite literally advertises allergy accommodation and I am very disappointed at the lack of willingness to help serve a meal for someone with an allergy that can be accommodated in very simple ways.

I’ve been ordering from this location for several years now. And what I just got were the worst grain bowls ever. I don’t know if their quality control has gone down recently, but I ordered the El Jefe and the Balboa and they were nothing but rice. I opened the Balboa and counted, no lie, just five pieces of pickled onion. And the avocado? Couldn’t even find it. Very similar situation with the El Jefe. I am extremely disappointed and will not order from this location again.

Messy, unorganized, and honestly not worth the headache. Staff here are consistently unfriendly and careless. I placed a clear online order and somehow they still got it wrong. This isn’t even the first time it’s happened at this location, which makes it even more frustrating. If you actually want your food made correctly (and without the attitude), skip this spot and go to the Grace St. location instead.

I'd recommend that you visually ensure your food is correct because it is sometimes hard to order with the grill going and the whole restaurant making noise at busy times.
