Came for happy hour on 4/12/2025, a Friday night. The physical space is very elegant — but for a large-ish restaurant and bar, it was a ghost town. Maybe their capacity is 100…there were about 6 people dining/at the bar. $5 glass of wine at Happy Hour, not bad! I ordered 6 oysters. The young lady bartender brought them to me with a bag of crackers literally sitting on top of the open oysters, right on the ‘meat’. Unsanitary! Then I ordered the potato chips with aioli sauce, which are thick-cut and apparently made in-house — but, when served to me, were not only cold (after being somewhat recently-fried) but some were partially raw, which I only found out after biting into one. Overall — kind of a bizarre experience, and I’d be very wary to order any other food. It’s a shame, as the bar is beautiful and I’m sure this was once a great restaurant.
Lack of professionalism from the owner KEN. And borderline disrespect and discrimination.
Great atmosphere, excellent and prompt service. The food was delicious.
One of the few locations open for people who want to eat a late lunch (after 2pm) on a weekday.
They do not offer a veterans or first responder discount though.
This place is the real deal. Great food and beer. Super staff.
One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in recent memory. I went to SM years ago and enjoyed it. Went this time on 3/22/25 and had a horrible experience. Apathetic and careless, inattentive wait staff, poorly and sloppily prepared food. The only two slightly redeeming qualities were the taste of the crab cakes - slightly above marginal - and Will, the gregarious and charming bartender that served us when we came in a few hours before dinner to have a cocktail. Don’t waste your time here. I wouldn’t eat there again if they paid me to do so. During dinner, the smell of burning marijuana permeated the restaurant from the kitchen. By the way. Spent the next 36 hours in the head. When reading this review to my wife and telling her what my ratings were, she said “Is there no option for negative stars.” Long time Richmond foodies.
Cool restaurant inside. Food was good. Service was slow and done out of order for seating. If I'm the second table sat, I shouldn't be the fifth one served. It was also difficult to get the servers attention for things like condiments and the check.
I was there for an event. Heavy hors d'oeuvres were served and drinks.
Went for happy hour. Oysters and seafood sliders were amazing
If you are old, like me, you will remember at TV show called Cheers. This place is like that. It’s just a comfortable, happy, friendly place. Somewhere you could grab a drink and the bar person and locals will chat to you. There are lots of bars in this old part of Richmond but this is the little gem in the area if you just want good food and a super friendly environment.
Was very friendly and just good place to drink and talk and eat I will be back for sure 👍

Food was not impressive, drinks were expensive, and bartender was a little snooty. It was upset quiet for an afterwork event, but I will not return.

It started off bad for the poor guy and got worse from there. The food was very good. The Rock Fish is always on point. It was quiet but probably justifiable for a Monday night.

Love this place! Always consistent with the food and Ryan makes the BEST old fashioned. Highly recommend to anyone local or from out of town.

She crab soup is thin and has too much sherry. Oysters were good but too expensive. Servers were nice but infrequent. $119 for six oysters, two happy hour drinks, two bowls of soup we didn’t eat, french fries, and chicken.
