This place is PHENOMENAL. My favorite restaurant in the United States by far.
The food is amazing, starting with bread, then appetizers, entrees and desserts, each course just gets better and better! I haven’t had better duck anywhere, and Shagbark’s pork chop is my go-to for a great meal anytime.
Believe it or not, the drinks are even better! The bar manager, Miguel, could win Olympic gold medals for mixology, you will never go wrong with a beverage here. Walk in, share what you like, and the bartenders here will spin gold!
The staff overall are some of the kindest, friendliest, and most knowledgeable people, listen to their recommendations and you cannot go wrong!
I’d recommend Shagbark for holidays, business meetings, date nights, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays… you get the gist! You will never regret choosing Shagbark as your destination!

My daughter and I met at shed books for dinner in the evening on a Thursday night. Without a reservation they were still able to see us. We ate off the regular menu. I had the pork chop and she had the chicken and both were absolutely delicious. Cooked perfectly served beautifully with wonderful accompaniments.

We had dinner at Shagbark in Richmond January 11, 2020. We had a fantastic meal, but I really wish to highlight our amazing service professional, Anya. She appeared to have many tables during our meal, a busy dining hour on Saturday night, no doubt and I know it’s her job, but she was above and beyond, leaving all four members of our party thoroughly impressed.
You see, Anya has this incredible presence, comfortable in her own skin and a master of the wine and food menus. She was able to guide us seamlessly when we sought her opinions on choices. As a result, Anya single-handedly elevated our first experience at Shagbark to epic. Well done Anya, Shagbark is very, very lucky to have you kindly guiding patrons to their most enjoyable experience. Thank you, Anya & Shagbark!!!

I was extremely disappointed in the strip special. The meat was tough and I had hoped the sauce would make up for it but the plate was very bland - no flavor at all. I was very surprised as I was looking forward to another wonderful meal that Shagbark has impressed me with so many times before.

First time visiting this place. Party of five to include my 3yr old and ALL of the staff were so friendly and accommodating. I was pleasantly surprised that they had a high hair and a small kids menu. Ambiance was nice throughout however we were sat right under an AC vent and we were chilly. Our server was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations. We had the charcuterie board which was plentiful and the pork belly melted in your mouth! Second picture is the chicken dish which was so tender and flavorful. The risotto is some of the best I’ve had. Others in my party raved about the duck and flounder. Sticky toffee pudding with bourbon gelato was a perfect ending. We will definitely be back!
Very pricey. The host tried to seat the two of us in a back corner where no one was sitting and there were plenty of seats throughout the main area. We just left the restaurant.

We always enjoy our meals at Shagbark. One of the best restaurants in Richmond. The service is great, and they offer an extended wine list along with a bar full of flavorful cocktails. The food is consistently delicious and very well prepared.
This time we ordered the salmon, shrimp pasta, beet salad, and squash blossoms — everything was excellent.
One suggestion: consider adding a beef dish. They have a great range of proteins, but a steak with the chef’s twist would be a fantastic addition.
Parking is easy, and the location is convenient with quick access to several highways and Richmond hotspots. Highly recommend.
